  1. Now I don't want to sound like a grumpy miserable b*stard, but the problem with noise from skateboarders on school grounds is getting ridiculous. And all with blessing from school under the excuse of "skateboarding class".

We live on the ground floor of an apartment building, with school's netball courts being right next to us, which gets converted to a skateboarding park, with makeshift ramps. The problem being that this "skateboarding class" is happening less than 5m from our balcony, usually on friday afternoons (but not limited to fridays). As you can imagine, this creates intolerable levels of noise.

I have spoken with the principal, he doesn't seem interested one bit. I have spoken with Auckland City Council, they have sent noise control inspectors on few occasions, they have also talked to the principal, who again wasn't interested. So city council told me to monitor the situation over the next few weeks and make note of all disturbances, and then they'll talk to school board. Somehow I don't think this will resolve the issue.

What are my other options? Make video recordings and get a lawyer? Any ideas are much appreciated :)

  2. Yes.

And most VPN services hate people using torrents etc, so don't be surprised if you get kicked off.

True, but you won't get kicked off this one - it was created specifically as a reaction to Swedish government bringing similar sort of law to our NZ one.

And its actually run by Pirate Bay :)

  3. The main problem is that now you are assumed guilty until you can prove otherwise. So if you get accused of downloading copyrighted material, it is you that needs to prove your innocence, not the other way around where they have to prove that you are guilty.

Say if I connect to your network, and then download copyrighted content, then it is YOU that has to prove that you are not guilty - since they go after the ISP account holder.

  4. Black Out

This Facebook page has been set up for those who oppose the Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Bill being rushed through Parliament.

Furthermore even if you do support copyright the government passing bills like this is rather outrageous especially as this one was rushed through under "Emergency Christchurch Earthquake Recovery Measures" We think this is wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pro-piracy, but this bill is just ridiculous. Whats next?

And no its not my page.

  5. I'll describe my setup, probably close to what you're after.

Acer Inspire One (?) netbook, connected to LCD tv via VGA (HDMI would be nice, but its a netbook :))

1GB ram, windows 7 starter, works perfectly fine as a media server. 2 1.5TB external drives connected to it for my media, can also stream to ps3 and xbox360.

I've also installed XBMC media center onto netbook, and can control it using XBMCRemote for iPhone - quite cool.

This netbook sits behind tv and is not used for anything else. Picture is good (as good as VGA can be) and sound is not too bad - yes it using in-built audio card, but the output goes to marantz amp, can't really complain about the sound quality.

And lastly, to control media server remotely, I use VNC.

As a main computer I've got sony vaio, well nowdays only used for development and "real" work, got a macbook pro a month or so ago to use as a main laptop - highly recommended if you can live without windows.

  6. Oh and for a 2.0 diesel they put a pretty good smile on your face, especially on tight windy roads!

Oh yes, I did quite a bit of driving around Europe in E90 320d couple of years ago, and was more than impressed with the engine. Although 6 speed manual probably helped as well.

  7. Might give Shift 2 a go. GT5 is a bit of a mixed bag. A lot of people are disappointed with the racing part of the game, including myself. However as a driving simulator it is great. As long as I have all my DTM cars that I can take around the 'ring I'm happy. When you get a perfect lap around the 'ring in DTM Alfa 155 you'll see what I mean :)

  8. Well after doing the 14 hour update on GT5 it has made the game a lot better, i've completed all the seasonal events to date, (have to wait till next month for new ones), so my question is, where are the endurance races? Do they exsist?

Endurance races are unlocked when you reach level 30. Once you get to 30 they'll appear in A spec events.

  9. Anyone got a good car for doing the historic racing event, without 20 million dollareo?

Best ive come up with is the 74 countach, can stay ahead of everything but the chapperel 2J vacuum cleaner thing, which eats everything for breakfast... Should be banned from GT5 too :D

Buy challenger rt '70 from dealership, change oil, race modify it in gt auto, buy all upgrades and racing softs. With a bit of luck you'll win, but won't be easy. Thats how I've done it.

  10. Would like to hear from people with smart phones, which network are you using and are you happy with it?

Reason I'm asking is that I find Vodafone to be total $h*t with my iPhone 4. Mobile internet over 3G is soooo slow that I just don't bother using it anymore, even tho I prepay 100mb broadband add on every month. And the reception signal is also mediocre at best, I live in ponsonby and all I get is one or two bars - even with my old phone. So would like to hear other people's experiences as I'm really thinking about switching to another network.
