Hi Guys, Just thought I would post this up here for your interest. I'm selling me car. [Yes I know it's not M-Sport but previous owner put on the badge - and doesn't look too bad] http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-394300416.htm As per the auction: _________________________________ __ For sale is an immaculate 5-Series BMW - very well looked after and always maintained. Body is very straight, and the car drives like a dream. Recently checked out by Coombes Johnston BMW in Hamilton - no known faults. Idles very nicely and has little road noise, whilst being stable on the open road. VANOS engine which is nice for the extra power. Just had a fresh new WOF - with 2x new rear tyres. This vehicle is chain driven so no need to change cam belt. Doesn't leak any oil, transmission is smooth and the engine runs nicely. I would find it hard to fault this car. _________________________________ ___________ Features: - Always washed, cleaned and vacuumed. - Original BMW tool kit - 6CD changer - Rear privacy screen (raises at the push of a button) - 35% tints all around - Alloy wheels - Angel eye head lights - Full leather interior - Gunmetal trim - unlike walnut which often fades and peels - Recently had a full check over by Coombes Johnston BMW - no known faults - Full new rear brake discs and pads (needed for WOF) - No lights showing on dash - Looks amazing in white _________________________________ Cheers!

Epic - thanks for the reply. Yeah I buy alot from Kerry - he's a good guy. How much did he charge for the module? I might have a go at cleaning the sensors over the weekend. Cheers Luke

Thanks for that - seems like I need to get a Peake reader. Any ideas where to get one from? Can't be bothered paying $45 each scan at BMW! Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, The ABS and ASC lights have started showing on and off - always together. Sometimes they're on - sometimes they're off. Car is a 1996 523ia E39. Any ideas? Could it be one of the wheel sensors? Or could it be the ABS module? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks, Luke

Hello my friends, So what I thought was a cam positioning sensor fault has actually turned out to be a cracked CCV unit (crankcase ventilation) - it's completely cracked off so a whole bunch of air is rushing in - apparently telling the ECU that the cam sensor is failing. Couple of questions - - Will I be wise in getting this from a wrecker? (I want to sell the car soonish) apparently they clog up? - Is it a DIY job for the basic guy with average knowledge? - Has anyone done it themselves? - Any words of wisdom? Car is a 1996 523i E39 (M52). Cheers, Luke

E39 523i M52B25 Cam/Crank Position Sensor (Car won't start!)
lukep88 replied to lukep88's topic in Electrical system
Right - just got back from Coombes - was reading a Cam Shaft Sensor - but in actual fact the oil separator valve (aka CCV) I've learnt - has cracked and the engine is getting far too much air! That's why I found a small spring floating loose around the engine bay haha. Apparently to get to replace it they'll have to take the manifold off? Thoughts guys? Will I be ok to get this part from a wrecked and get a regular mechanic to chuck it in? Basically just need a new valve, new hose, gasket and vent pipe. Thanks in advance -
E39 523i M52B25 Cam/Crank Position Sensor (Car won't start!)

Just had the diagnostic done - looks like there is a PRESENT code for the Cam Angle Sensor - so hopefully it's just that that's faulty. Going to buy a new one from BMW - think it will be worth paying the premium on this one to get the job done properly. Will let you know the results. Cheers -

Wow thanks guys! So much help. Just the info I am after. What about one like this? I know it's replica - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=388503423 I'm looking to probably sell the car in the near future anyway - so just after a fix on the cheaper side of things to do the job. Thanks in advance. -

Thanks for that. Can you suggest any decent places to source one of these sensors? Crank or cam? SD Euro only have aftermarket replica parts - would like to go genuine if possible but BMW are all $300+ Thanks in advance. -

Thanks - yeah I'll try and get genuine parts. Are the readers fairly accurate that they have? Ie do you think it will be able to distinguish between Cam/Crank sensors? -
Hi all, Long time (dormant) user - first time poster. I've recently run into troubles with my E39 523i 1996. (M52b25 Engine) It turns over (just) but runs really rough - almost like it's misfiring and doesn't hold any sort of idle. I brought it to our local garage who ran a diagnostic on it - who seems to think it's the camshaft positioning sensor - but he says his computer isn't quite sure, and it could in fact be the crankshaft. I have it booked in for a diagnostic at Coombes Johnston in Hamilton - they assure me I should get a more accurate idea of what sensor has failed. Just to throw a spanner in the works - the car had the camshaft positioning sensor (intake) replaced November last year - so could this also be a case of a dodgy aftermarket part or are they usually pretty good? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Cheers Luke
