Thanks guys. I was really looking to see if there was an easyer way. I had similar problems years ago with a 280zx I had. I believe the 2002 i.e. parts will work on the 635. The chassis is the same as the e12 5 series. I have a whole 100 lts drum of eccentric, subfram and other bolts i scored from a wrekers that was shutting shop so i will probably make up something myself. Bought a turbo for it BTW Mike. Old k26 with a k27 compressor and rather large exhuast housing. Fully rebuilt so should be ok for my not so lofty power aims. looking for 350 hp at the crank so no high boost needed. Cheers, Douglas

Ash. Can you do the same for early bmw's? I have an early 635csi that is lowered a little and badly in need of adjustment. I can do the welding my self just need a little bit of a guidllnine. Cheers, Douglas

Thank guys! I didnt think it would be possable to run the turbo with the L-jetronic. Stupid of me really. This is not a daily driver so that might be an alternative for a short time.A least I could get all the plumbing and so forth sorted before I attempt computer stuff. The wireing for the megasquirt didnt look to difficult Mike. Just need a few mor rainy days to make room in the shed. Douglas

Thanks Marty, I hoped you would reply. Probably would have bought that engine off you if I had known about it earlyer. Yes, Lots of questions and belive it of not I have been searching ---- a lot! I am not in a hurry, like I said I need to finish another project 1st, but I would like to start collecting parts and info. I will work up a more specific list and give you a buzz. Cheers, Douglas

Howdy All, I have had my 79 635 for a week now and think it needs a bit more power. Standard it about as quick as my v6 holden ute. So after a bit of research I think I will go with an air to air intercooled turbo with megasquirt for fuel and ignition control. I dont want massive power. Looking at 300 at the wheels. I will keep this as low budget as I can (have two other car toys that need fibishing), will use flipped manifolds and keep the bottom end standard. I could use a bit of advise on what size turbo to use. Something thats commonly avalable would be a bonus. I have also been trying to figure out what parts are needed to convert the L-jetronic to computer control. The megasquirt guys seem to like to use gm sensors. Can I use the existing BMW ones? Might as well use the version 3 edition as it seems to be able to self tune. This would be highly benificial as I have never played with electronics before! I can do all the metal fabrication. So, what parts do I need, Turbo, intercooler and plumbing are a bit obvious. What about the fuel control? New fuel pump, Water temp senser, Air temp sensor, Wide band oxygen sensor? Should I cange the air flow meter to a maf one? So what Am i missing? I am also going to have to do something about the valve gear on the old m30. Making a hell of a racket and using some oil. Thoght I might get the cam reground while I have it apart. Some of the posts I have read suggest that you can use up a 284 duration cam with a turbo. Any ideas on this? Any one have a spare head? Thanks again, Cheers, Douglas

Thanks for the warm welcome. The datsun is a work in progress. I have been working on it for about 4 tears now when time and $ alows. Time has been short. I having been doing a wine making degree on top of runing my vineyard and olive grove on my own so am busy pretty much 24/7. Things only really get done on rainy days when other pending r and m is finished. Should be a fun car. 383 cubic inch small block chevy with a supra 5 speed. Coil overs and camber plates all around. Basic cage to targa spec and rather large feet 275/40/17 in the rear with 245/45/17s on the front. I have made an new nose and rear end for it in an attempt to stop the thing getting to much air. Not far of painting now. Here is a link to some of the build photos: http://album.hybridz.org/member.php?uid=8086&protype=1 Cheers, Douglas

Howdy all, Just bought my self a 79 635csi 5 speed manual. I have always wanted one sence they were new whenI was at school. Guess it took a while. This one needs a little work but the body is in pretty good shape. Its lowered a bit and has standard rims. New 16 inch ones have been ordered and possably a later model air dam ( anyone have one?) will go on if I can find one. Otherwise I will leave it alone for a while. Would like to upgrade the suspension and engine just to make it a bit faster. 300 or so hp will do. This will need to wait untill i finish my other project, 500 hp v8 datsun 260z targa car. Looking forward to chatting to other like minded people. Cheers, Douglas (AKA ZROSSA)
