Thanks all, its been fixed, it was the starter after all, my uncle was crazy and baught it from Repco instead of ordering it from the likes of FCPeuro but its done its installed.
-
Thought it might be the case for only charging it, he already has the new battery and it's tested good to be sure, can't tap the starter though it's a bit out of reach I suspected that too, tried jumping the car from the terminals under the hood with no change sadly, and the connections look brand new and are tight, so it's unlikely to be that I think, when I can I'll find a long bar and tap the starter to see if that helps any, if it's the starter then I'll have an interesting time getting to it, not used to the n52 engines, only the m50-m54 :S

Hey all, My uncles e90 started cranking slowly recently, he thought it was his battery so bought a new one, but now the car wont start at all, with either the old or new, just makes a soft click and nothing else when you press the start button, is this because the battery needs to be programmed to the car?? or just that the starter has just died?? It would be annoying if it was the starter though as the car only has 70 thousand kms

World Radio Pulled from a 2002 e39 m-sport Flat Pin connector, Looks to be in good condition but is untested. These usually go for stupid amounts on ebay, but as its untested im open to offers around $300, Located in Papakura, Auckland

Checked that today, there was a bit of oil down cyl 4 so i cleaned that up and retorqued the plug, no change, changed the water pump too, No change, with the belt removed no change, so im starting to lean toward a sticky lifter i think, most people on the internet recommend seafoam, but i dont think we have that here??
-
Just managed to pull my belt off again and started the car with and without it, it sounds like my water pump is stuffed, I can also rock the damn thing in place, so I'm looking for water pumps real quick haha

Hey all, got done today replacing my broken radiator shroud coolant and also resealed my valve cover gasket, however now at idle ive got this weird sound that didnt exist before, if i bring the rpms up ever so slightly the noise goes away, so im not thinking its the lifters, and ive gone over the car with propane and not been able to find any vacuum leaks, and ive tested my pulleys and they feel and sound fine too, this noise is there hot or cold, im a bit stumped as i cant pin point the noise other than being around the middle of the top of the engine? Ive also checked my DISA valve, its fine, I cant think of anything else i can check? Video of the noise is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GkdmZojhpI and no, the noise does change as its just idling, it sort of sounds like something coming through a pipe?? Car is a 2001 e39 525i

To update it, ive been watching lots of youtube vids, and found it could POTENTIALLY be water intrusion from heavy rain, since my bmw lives on the road ill assume it was that as it hasnt done it since and hasnt really rained since, ill keep an eye on it, though im still a bit paranoid that not all the power is there that should be , Ill try new Cam position sensors some time soon though

Tested Fuel pressure the other day, Solid all the way through the RPM range, This morning however, i fired her up and she was misfiring REALLY badly, scanned her immediately and got p1350 and p1342 so a cylinder 1 and 5 misfire, which.. shouldn't be happening as Ive Literally just replaced the coils, plugs and rocker cover gasket + other stuff , after about a minute she started to idle ok , still no check engine light, but she also is idling louder than usual now... Either im missing something or I still have a vacuum leak???
-
no, only idle and off testing, didnt disconnect the FPR either, Ill give that a go though when i have time
-
Just got done with checking my fuel pressure, 50 psi while on idle and 45 psi not running, that is within tollerance I think?
-
a MAF clean is probably good practice , Ill give that a go, im waiting on a friend to lend me his injection tester kit, Ill likley need to replace the fuel filter as you say!
-
Ive scanned it, I havnt reset any adaptations,Not sure how I can reset adaptations? Ill have to look it up, and not touched the MAF, No codes other wise, I only have a bluetooth ews2.7 ODB scanner and its a "fake" one so i know some apps dont work with it
