  1. sh*t...I'm just thinking about all the gas I've wasted over the years diligently warming up cars.. Still, every time I visit this board I'm learning something new...my area of expertise is grapevines (not cars ,as you may have deduced by now ) Thanks guys and appreciate the advice...
  2. That's interesting...I had always been under the impression that in the colder months it was advisable to allow 5 or so minutes for the engine to warm up. I think it might let the guys at Topp motors-blenheim have a look ,as my car is now occasionally stalling at stop signs etc...(not the lights,as we don't have any in Blenheim ) It seems the possible causes are too numerous for a noob to handle :gay: ,so I'm gonna wimp out and pay someone to fix this particular gremlin...
  3. Err...yeah. She's middle-aged in car-years,so I give her a bit of time to wake up in the morning...south island mornings can be a bit crisp. Do you think I'm being a "bit of a Doris" by giving my old girl that much of a warm-up??
  4. Yes it is an L-jet F.I system... :banghead: Insome ways it's not a big deal 'cos the idle settles within 5-6 mins, which is the minimum warm-up i would give the car anyway... throughout the rest of the day there is no noticable surging /roaming while driving... Thanks for your advice everyone, and will check some stuff out over the long weekend!!!
  5. Just had the cambelt done (and not a moment too soon, dude told me it was a JUST ABOUT ready to go..) Don't know if having a flat K & N would make matters worse or not... As you both said it's no biggie, I won't fret over it... and come to think of it,I don't even like my neighbours that much so fcuk 'em :finger: :finger:
  6. A quick question for yis... I start work pretty early and most ev'ryone in the 'hood is still getting some shuteye...until I turn the key. Tacho needle hits just over 2000rpm...no foot near the gas pedal. As she warms up there is a steady drop down to 1100 ish rpm and then she's fine...no more decrease in revs. My bimmers no whisperjet :mosh: :mosh: I feel a bit bad for the poor buggers next door hearin my beast evry morning...would sound like :rambo: :rambo: in yr head... One last thing , this is'nt a random idle issue...it is the same high idle start every time. Whaddya think??
  7. I'll go see the dude at Blenny Car parts ....the guys a master  ... get the suspension bushings, control arm ,ball joints checked out. Thanks again guys

    Aluminium Floor Mats

Count me in for a set of those...if you still got 'em....I'm always trashin the mats with mud and dust 'cos of working around vineyards. They look like a fine bit of kit!!
  9. Hmm...i had thought that might be it ...kinda strange that a few mechanically - minded folks i know never suggested i check that... Hope I didn't come across as too much of a stupid cnut asking that question!! Thanks m8
  10. Here's one that may or may not have been asked before... Whenever I'm driving around the CBD of the roaring metropolis that is the town of blenheim , I can hear this rattling /clunking sound from front passenger side ESPECIALLY driving over those feckin' speed bumps ....Weird thing is that ONLY i can hear it!! Passengers just look at me blankly when I start raving about it....thing is when I put air in the tires the other day(32 front and rear) IT JUST GOT LOUDER :banghead: One of you erudite bimmerphiles  out there will be smirking reading this,so c'mon and put this newbie out of his misery
  11. Hmm....had'nt thought of that!! Those stripes have probably been there since the car was new...tho being lach-silver paint it may not be so bad . I do enjoy a good set of tan lines, but not on my car
  12. Might borrow the Missus' hairdryer!!! Sounds like a heat-gun is the way to go then...easy does it I suppose... Thanks for the advice.
  13. Err...well I would but I'm a bit of a 'tard when it comes to posting pics.. It's like a pinstripe(?) running about six inches under window-sills ,down the sides from near headlights to rear lamps....just yer average fud stripe , not real Dukes of Hazzard style.
  14. BAWBAG here, New to the board...hope i don't get flamed for asking this BUT...any ideas on how to remove chipped/faded GO-FASTER STRIPES? They are feckin' hard to get off!! I think my wee bimmer will look a bit smarter without them!
