E36 318i Auto M43 Engine: A problem that is causing me massive headache, also going to hit the wallet big time, I desperately need help! The car stutters whilst driving @ 1700 - 2500 rpm and can stall when the revs drop at stopping. The problem doesnt really occur when fuel is greater than appx 1/2 tank or greater. Only occurs when warm. Diagnostic machine at garage shows no faults. Recent water pump change. CCV/PSV valve changed. Inlet manifold all cleaned. Changed fuel pump as though fuel related but fault came back 2-3 days after change. When driving @ steady 2k -> 2.5k revs, on the fuel comsumption gauge pulses and driving up hill the car feels like it is pulsing. Please Help me!

I have found the source of the moving squeal/ Noise. So posting my results for reference The noise is crankcase vacuum or sucking. This is caused by a faulty CVV/CCV/OSV/PCV all those different names listed on the internet. You can diagnose quickly by removing the dipstick when the noise is occuring or remove filler cap and you find the engine sucking air in. Once open the idle goes even worse. The difficult part of finding the problem is that everybody describes the fault different and the faulty part has so many names. Also never second hand as common fault on all models of BMW, Crankcase vent valve - CVV Crankcase vent valve - CCV Oil seperation valve - OSV Pressure control Valve - PCV Hope this helps other drivers of this fault

I have just developed a high pitch squeal from the engine area somewhere. Car details , 318i E36 1.8 m43 engine 223k on its. Auto the noise only appears when the car has warmed up. the noise is at idle but disappears when revv'd when driving as you rev, the sound goes but as you lift foot off pedal, once the car has started to slow, the noise comes back untill idle speed . i have replaced water pump i have removed all belts and ran it, te sound is there. The origin is some in bay area but hard to pin point. there is a black circle thing that sits on the middle of the manifild, cant see it in OEM, but it sits on the flange, 11611247772 part number. thats is hissing a lot. throw water on it, it gets blown away? does that mean anything. there seems to be performace drop but hoping there are seperate issues. I have checked under bay for anything obvious. had it checked over but nobody can tell what the problem is and costing me a bomb, so wanted it get fixing first time round. PLEASE HELP me.. losing my mind with the noise

Hi, I am in Wellington, No error codes when plugged in, Is the MAF, on top of the filter box, thus sensing all air flow coming in. have atttached a pic of the exact same engine bay as mine, this picture is cleaner also with an arrow if you can confirm this is the MAF and its built into lid so have to replace it all.

I have a 1997 318i M43 engine with a running problem need some help please, hope its one cause for the different occurances. 1) It starts 99% fine then the 1% it fails and after cranking for a while it will start. 2) When going mainly up hill it will stutter and lose power, you have to push pedal to the ground or engage sport mode to get higher revs to push through it, it happens randomly 3) when driving on main road at 2100 revs steady speed the fuel consumption guage looks like bobbin between figures nice and steady and sometimes the cars feels like it is pulsing. Had BMW diag on it, no faults, throttle body cleaned, new plugs, good heathly blue spark at HT lead end. Please can you help as going mad trying to find fault and without buying millions of parts, also most mechaincs cant put their finger on the problem as it infrequent on testing. Thanks for any idea...
