  1. Price Reduced - even more! 1993 325i (E36) 5-speed transmission - $5,500.

With these wheels and new tyres you won't find a better combination of features and colors with a manual transmission at this price.

This is a great color combination with Granite Silver Metallic paint and Silver Gray leather interior. It is a 5-speed manual transmission with ABS brakes, air conditioning (individual dual controls), alarm, central locking, power steering, electric windows and BMW towbar.

Has genuine BMW Motorsport DS1 wheels 7.5" x 17" and brand new 225/45-17 Kumho Ecsta KU31 tyres. These wheels are now $1,060 each from the dealer. Wheels and tyres are worth quite a bit alone - so it really is quite a good deal for the whole car. :-)

Vogtland springs and Bilsteins on the front and professionally done legal window tints. Leather interior in good condition apart from a little scuffing on the edge of the driver's seatback. New genuine BMW front brake pads and new Brembo discs just done (2Nov) as well as WOF. Fresh oil change and filter today.

Body in great condition except for stone chips on front (from previous owner). Touch up paint tube included. Solid car that performs really well. 185,000km. This is a New Zealand new car. (Option code 805)

Price Reduced: $5,500 ono for bimmersport. Listed on TradeMe for $6,000 Call me (in Golden Bay) to discuss 03 525 7488 or PM/email me. I will meet buyers at Nelson airport.

  3. If you have water spots / lime scale you can use metal polish to get it out. Doesn't scratch the window - similar stuff to toothpaste.

For stubborn minerals/rust/salt/lime/scum I have found Clean-X Cream Cleanser to work great and does not damage the surface. Needs some elbow grease but good product. I get it through the local glass shop.

  4. If you want a 6 point harness, slide the seat back 3 notches, then lock the seat belt, then reposition the seat with the belt niiiiice and tight. Amazing.

Just for people who don't know :)

Where might one buy the locks for a seat belt? Or is there a trick to do it with the stock belt? This would certainly help for club track days as I really slide around a lot in the E36 leather seats even on the street through the twisties.

  5. Depending on budget, also think about bluetooth since this new law's coming in. One option would be to get a BT integrated headunit. Guessing you'd be looking over $300 for a bt capable unit

    Rogan,

I am trying to do this on a budget and putting a few CD's in the stacker is easy since I don't listen to it that much and it still works fine. MP3/iPod would be nice but probably more hassle and money than I am willing to spend. You're right about the tape player - but if it is part of the stacker head unit I don't mind.

Under $100 for the head unit and $50 to install is my price range.

    Thanks.

  6. Thanks Brent - great post.

Do I need to replace my unit with a Sony model only? Or can I put in something else like you mention the BMW/Alpina or maybe a Blaupunkt - unless they aren't any good nowadays.

I am such novice when it comes to car stereo - I know next to nothing.

Would you recommend the third trademe listing you posted? Seems like a cheap way to fix my problem.

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.as...;rewritten=true

Would it be best to take the used unit to a car audio shop to have it installed? I have no tools for soldering wires and my fingers are claustrophobic anywhere near the insides of a dashboards.

Thanks also Nathan - I'll try hamish

  7. What were the standard Blaupunkt radios that came in the 1993 E36 cars with CD changers in the trunk?. My car has a BMW/Sony unit. How about posting photos of your radio and maybe where they might be purchased.

This is precipitated by my need to probably get a new unit for my car.

    Thanks all.

Note to Jochen: I have had no luck whatsoever in finding anyone to replace the bad capacitors inside the radio as you suggested.

  8. I have a terrible squawk/screech when I turn off the radio, turn off the CD or just shut the car off when the radio is on. Just today I noticed that one of the rear speakers has not working all the time - was on and off for a bit.

    Any ideas what could be wrong? It's a '93 325i sedan E36.

I have a 10 disk changer in the trunk and this unit on the dash with removeable face plate.

I know nothing about car stereos so please keep your answers in layman's terms I can understand. If I need to replace anything, I am open to suggestions. I do want to keep the BMW style radio/faceplate and speakers must fit into the original locations. I do not like all the blue lights and blinking things on aftermarket radios, rather prefer the look that I have.

When it is all working the sound is fine with me so I don't need to spend tons of money on a fancy upgraded system. Something about the same would be fine, minus the screeching, of course.

    Thanks

  9. Here's an update,

No price break for ordering 5 of the JT Design panels. We would need to order 15 to get the distributor pricing which is $78 USD. They can come five in a box weighing 25 pounds and the box is 33"x18"x5". I would estimate the shipping to be about $200NZD = $40 each.

Here is another underpanel that I like a lot since it is plastic and would probably work better during a low speed front end impact - say running into a wall when parking.

Anyway, here is a link to the Bimmerworld SSI underpanel and photo.

  10. Would be interested but seeing how big these things are shipping will be $.

There is another one that seems better than the JTD, the Motion Motorsports one.

    http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=210406

Probably more cost effective to get it fabricated locally.

The JT Design comes in two main flat pieces with the vertical baffle as the third part - that's why I thought it would be cheaper to get shipped here rather than the one big piece of the Motion Motorsports.

I would think that stacking 5 of these into one box would be considerably cheaper than sending five separately, hence the idea of a group buy. If more people would like the MM piece, then lets look at that for a group buy.

    Interested parties?

    Cheers,

  11. Just heard back from the Zimmerman guys, and even allowing for freight, price would work out higher than the ones quoted above. Worth a try though.

I just checked how much shipping would be by placing an order (then canceling before payment - as suggested by Schmiedmann) 171 euro = $356 NZD

This is a bit more than I expected. :(

Add this to the parts cost of euro269 ($561NZD) and we get a grand total of euro 451.28 = $941 NZD.

Gavin (Euro-Italian) - is this the price you would be looking at to get these?

    Thanks.

  12. Yes they are Zimmerman (as shown in the photo) - here is the blurb from the Schmiedman website:

Zimmermann made in Germany! with Tüv approval!

    Set/2pieces! OE.REF.NR. 34-11-1-165-455

I have not seen these retailed by anyone else. Do we know of a Zimmerman retailer in New Zealand that we could ask to get these for us here?

Weight is 12.58 KG for two including the packaging - so I figure a little less than 6kg each or 13 lbs. This is one pound lighter than the stock E36 rotor due mostly to the aluminium centre section I presume.

What other information would you want? So far the folks at Schmiedman have been good about replying to emails.

    Cheers.

  13. Hi All,

I have found a floating rotor for the E36 stock size brakes 286mm x 22mm. They are Schmeidmann and are a lightweight option we could use with genuine pads or uprated pads if you want. From Denmark. Cost about $560 plus shipping

Here is a link to the web site and an image.

Is there anyone interested in a group buy? I would be willing to contact them and ask if we have enough interest.

  14. Clay bar....sorted.

I'll trust your recommendation if you truly think this will work.

The problem is that the cleaner/polish/wax is IN the stone chips which is below the surface level of the paint. As I understand clay, it is gently moved across the surface of the paint, no pressure, and will remove surface contaminants.

Somehow I don't think of the gunk in the chips as being on the surface.

Will the clay bar really pick this stuff up out of the chips?

And another problem comes to mind - won't the clay bar actually catch the edges of the chips and get stuck in there too?

Just want to double check before I go and buy clay and lubricant etc. to find out it's not the solution.

    Thanks.

  15. Hi All,

The 325i that I bought a few months ago has a ton of stone chips that I want to touch up. I bought some touchup paint in a small tube (with a useless brush) and will use a fine artist's brush. My only problem/question is that the previous owner used a electric buffer and waxed the car when he put it up for sale and ALL the chips now have a tan wax in them (at least that's what it looks like).

So, my question is, how would you suggest I clean the wax out of the chips before I retouch them?

I am thinking electric toothbrush but do not want to scratch the paint around the chips. What do you think? Anyone done this?

    Cheers.

  16. Yes, there is a little bulb in there. I replaced mine.

    Google is your friend. http://www.bmwe36blog.com/2008/02/29/fixin...lumination-diy/

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for the link to the light bulb replacement. that website looks very interesting - I'll have to spend some more time there when I get some free time. Bookmarked!

I Google almost everything seems like, except this subject, thought of posting on the forums first and sure enough you came through. Will pull it out tomorrow and order a bulb from dealer. (I live in Golden Bay, and I know that no one here will have that bulb.)

Oh also - nice car and nice photo!

    Cheers.
