hi andy.i can't take it with me as of the moment coz' it was released by the police yesterday for finger print specimen and i had it dropped off right after to the approved panel beater of my insurance but i have no idea yet of the extent of damage aside from the things i saw visually when i checked it with the towing services.i'll check with the panel beater on monday and will come to see you if it will be fixed so that you can have a look.

what i mean is the center console of the auto trans but just the cover with the prnd23 indicators when you shift it exposing some wirings of the auto trans.don't have any idea yet if it still running coz' it's with the panel beater.i have to check with them on monday.do you think it will still be restored if they've done something to it?

just curious because my e30 was stolen right in my driveway but they abandoned it after maybe 10mins away from my place.they ripped off the transmission cover maybe trying to sort it out but lucky for me that they weren't able to let it work normally.does that mean that it has an immobilizer?if so,how would i know.any idea?
-
hi to all.just need an info if an old e30 1988 has a built in immobilizer?will it run if the ignition will be ripped off and a screw driver be used to turn on the engine?tks.
-
tks flake it is a 10mm hex key.
-
i've got spare wheel bolts that i could use for this.thank you very much.
-
cool.i'm at collins ave.will just text you then.will try to sort things out this weekend.tks.
-
that's a good idea.if i can't get hold of a proper hex i'll use that option.will try to look for bolts and nuts of the same size as the hex.tks very much.
-
i'm not sure if it's the same size as the atf plug.it appears to be bigger.i'll be putting a 75w80 synth diff oil.i'm in tawa.just got this a year ago so, i'm trying to replace the fluids.
-
hi, can you please help me if what hex key size i need to buy and where to buy it. i am going to replace the diffenrential oil of my E30 1988 320i. i don't have any idea of what size is it.i'm in wellington.tks.
-
i was thinking of 80w90 but if 75w90 is best then i'll go for it.thank you very much for the replies.
-
hi drew, if i remember it correctly when i had it safety checked the rear wheels turned the opposite direction when they checked it. so, it's a standard open diff. so i can use a 75w-90? tks mate.
-
how do i know if it needs LSD? do you suggest that i should undo the top fill hole first before i drain it to make sure? if i can't is there any alternative? tks.
-
hi, i'm just a new member here and about a year owner of a 320i e30 1988 BMW. i don't have enough knowledge on BMW so, i would just like to know what would be the oil grade that i should use for the differential oil. i'm planning to drain and refill the diff oil and how much should i put in. tks.
-
points well taken mate. thank you very much for your opinions.
-
thanks for the options. i'm considering a manual convertion. would a straight pipe and an aftermarket muffler wouldn't be too noisy?or it would depend on the muffler. for the chips would it make any difference at all? i like the pod filter sound effect and easier to service as well.
-
unfortunately it's auto that is why i find it sluggish maybe if it could have been a manual i won't bother because you can shift to a low gear anytime you like. is a 2.5 will just fit in 320i with not much of modifications?
-
we've done the inspection 2 checklist as well. i guess i'll just go with appearance like pod filters and good sounding mufflers i suppose.i like the car though so i'll just do something about the appearance i guess.tks mate.
-
already did everything that needs servicing.is converting a factory airfilter to a direct drive pod filter would help in anyway?
-
so nothing really much to do bout this engine?the only option is a swap?any rough estimate for a swap?is there anything i can do aside from the swap.paint job is pretty much decent as well as the interior aside from a few cracks on the dash.i service it regularly like oil change every 6mos with about 5-6k kms only.what would be the other fluids i need to change?
-
any suggestion on how to upgrade my 1988 320i in terms of performancejust basic one though just to add a bit of power on my daily driver.mine is a bit sluggish so a bit of power would be good.i don't race so, i'm just looking at the most basic upgrade that i could do.tks.

tks for the input bro...

planning to use fuchs titan 10w40 the oil i was using prior to castrol 15w40 but fuchs is not that readily available and is quite expensive so my cheaper alternative would be valvoline synthetic blend 10w40 if the 5w40 is too thin for my car. do any of you guys have experienced with a vortex turbine in the air filter line going to the throttle body for a bit of increase in horse power?is it really working as what the others claim?
-
tks for the quick reply guys. i'm currently using 15w40 but it seems the engine temp is a bit on the high end although it's just at the middle. i don't really know if that is normal for a bmw? searched on some threads and read that some uses 5w40 and it seems the engine runs a bit cooler but i don't really have any technical knowledge on it.
-
i just purchased a 1988 320i e30 a year ago and would just like to know if anybody here using valvoline synthetic 5w40 as the engine oil for the car. i'm planning to try using it for my next oil change. it is pretty much available and cheaper than the other brands but would like to know it is worth a try?tks.
