  1. My 86 320 i Is overheating a lil bit and I think it may be Air in the CoolingSystem ,Dont think its the Gasket as there are no tell tale signs in the Olil or Nasty Smells in the Expansion Tank,What is the best way to Bleed these Cooling Systems and another thing is the 86 320i Chain or Belt Driven Timing Chain Setup??

    Ta

  2. Hi hope someone may be able to help, our E30 320i has a small annoying Oil leak on the drivers side front Head Gasket, without replacing the whole gasket is there anything else we could do ????to solve the prob??Its not much but just enough to be a bit unsightly

    TX in advance..

  3. Hi Gang we have finally fixed this problem and it was the Central Locking Computer behind the Kick Panel that had to be replaced and thanks to a Guy called Ian ,who lives in Park Ave, Loer Hutt, we have finally purchased a unit and got it going..P.S,,(I added the Ian bit because he may just read this column..)

  4. difficult starting, bad idle... sounds like an air leak into the intake system or the crankcase. Check all intake hoses and dipstick seal and oil filler cap for being airtight.

The idle valve that is temp controlled on your car will be under the intake manifold in front of the starter. These pack up particularly if you havn't used antifreeze in the system. It is a strange looking thing with 2 coolant pipes and 2 air pipes going to it.

Cold start valve is at the rear of the intake manifold.

    Will

I did see two Valves both going to the Injecor rails but at the font of theengine almost above the Thermostat housing??

Would this show quite clearly in Haynes or Bentlys??

    TX

  5. Now for problem number two with the 86 320i,The Idle is shocking and sometimes even stalls at the lights and the car is very hard to start in the mornings..could it be the cold start valve and what is causing the car to idle so badly..

Are cold start valve very expensive to fix???

Heres hoping that its just bad plugs and maybe a hose that has vacuum leaks

Thanks in advance I look forward to your learned replies

    TX

  6. Thanks again Will and Hotwire..Your help is absolutely awsome...I am sure we will get this fixed in no time as it appears to be the CLU or the Actuators that seem to go wrong with this setup(Jese I hope its not just a faulty earth)..hahahhaha

Tell me what is the best Plug to use in the E30 320i a Boch or the NGK Equivulent???I find that with my <_< 535i it make quite a bit of difference to the Idle if you use the German Plug..

  7. Man this is awsome.....and i thank you so so much for your help...is the plug that plugs into the Central Locking Unit the one that they say can get corroded pins ????

I notice that there is a rubber Boot covering a group of wires that go from the back of the Front Guard to the door?,I get the impression that there may be a Plug and Socket some where in there or in the door too that they refer to as a problem...how do i get to see that as i cant seem to roll the rubber surrounding the wiring loom back??

    TX a Million..

  8. Thanks Will ,when you say central locking Module I presume you are referring to the one that was mentioned that is behind the Drivers Side Kick board?? also do the Solenoids pack up???we have taken the Trim off the drivers side door and should be able to feel it yes??

Also when you talk about the connector ,is it the one that is covered by a Rubber Sleeve that comes from the Right Guard to the Door???How do i find this main connector ??as there are about three????

Thanks so Much Gang for your input??

God I need a Bentlys Manual....hahahahahha..The Haynes one is Crap.. <_<

  9. Hi there, Have you tried operating from passenger door or boot locks -they all operate c/locking.

If not working from all 3 locks check fuse 27. If thats ok it is possibly the door lock control module at fault - these are known to fail.

It is located in the bottom of the drivers side kick panel -remove trim -under a plastic cover. If this proves the to be the fault I have one listed on trademe -auction 64272995

Also petrol flap lock is on same cicuit hense that not working

    Good luck :)

Thanks Hotwire have added to watchlist...No locks at all working or Petrol Lock but I do hear a relay clicking over so i hope the device that pushes the snip button up itself has not failed this car was left out in the rain we had down here in welly..

But thank you so so much for your tip....now i know what fuse the lacks are on...This Vachel was purchased without even an owners handbook

You want to see eficiencey!! Chicks carrying Ten Roast Chickens and Ten Beer Stiens at the same Time..Stick your hand up in the air and there is a Beer on your Table within 30 Secs!! Da Bomb!!

  12. I dunno about that!!!

Dont want them as silent as an Accord..Gus, but the big sixes can be a bit noisey.

I just think our mechanics are not doing something that their Tuetonic counterparts are doing ....belive it or not the German Sevice charges are about half what ours are ..that may have something to do with them doing the job in half the time and being probably the highest skilled Auto. Techs in the world..

No Kidding... you can eat of the floor in the plant in Munich...and the Merc plant factory floor just outside Stuttgart, looks more like an operating theatre....
