I'm looking at getting a 318i, but the lifters are noisy, and the sound evidently doesn't disappear with acceleration or with temperature. It's in Wellington and I'm in Christchurch so I can't go and have a look at the thing. I need to know a few things:
1) how long can you drive it before munting something important? Say Wellington to Christchurch?
2) how likely is it that its just the oil rail?
3) how likely is it that it needs the head replaced?
and 4) how easy is it to get new lifters/ new head (if it comes to that)?
