What's the issue with the current unit ? If it's a 2001 you should be able to change the language to English and the Tuner to Oceania and remove the band expander.

For BT stick with the Board and get a Dension BT lite gateway. It connects in line with your CD stacker and gives usb , 3.5mm and BT streaming. streaming. Comes with Mic so will also do hands free with control via Boardmonitor.

Have band expander but sounds like crap as soon as you get outta town and I'm too early for the world mode radio.

What are my options (in layman's terms please) of eliminating the expander and having an input to play mp3's from my phone?

I currently have the Jap navigation system in the car (2001 E39) and want to go back to the 'Business' system (or whatever it's called).

Is it a simple plug and play or more involved?

google it, there is a setting on most of the stereos from about this age onwards for changing the settings to "oceania"

I've been wanting to know if the obc functions are still able to be used too. Care to elaborate?

Shall take some tomorrow. Completely stock standard, unfortunately a Jap spec one so have to work out what I'm going to do regarding the stereo in it. Ultimately would love the factory business system to get rid of the widescreen that it's got but unsure if it'll be plug and play
