Thanks for reply Glen, next days off are next week. Will see how things are placed, in regards to you maybe having a look at this car for me. Cheers Kenny.

I have just brought a 2002 318i, travelled 144,000kms (import). A couple of issues, first it has a vibration in the back end. Do the half axles, or the driveshaft, of diff for that fact have any common faults. Other thought was brake dics's not running true.Tyres seem fine. Second issue sometimes rattles when first started after sitting awhile and cold. Suspect timing chain, or maybe a oil pressure valve allowing oil to drain out of the engine while sitting. Once running quiet as a mouse and starts fine for the rest of the day. (No noise) Any help on these issues would be appreciated. Cheers

2000 E46 318ia Water leak back of head and stalling when cold.

Hi Brent, Thanks for the reply. Looking at doing this job on Friday. What would you estimate the degree of difficulty, on a scale of 1-10 for both jobs and what would the cost of the flange and PCV be. Cheers Kenny. -
Just found the water leak at the back of the head. Possibly hose or fitting in back of the head. How difficult is it to rectify this. Second issue, stalls when first starting and idling cold and selecting drive stalls as well. Once warm no problems. Holds gear when driving cold until warms up which I believe is fairly normal. It's just the initial starting and running cold and stalling that I would like to sort out.

Hi There, Went down the auto track. Auto oil was ok, but decided to get flush, filter etc, plus new cooler to cover all bases. $750 later we will see how it pans out. Thanks Glen for you advice.

Water is clear but has white/ pink golobels look to it which makes me think trans fluid? transmission changes fine but changes down going down hill when touching brakes, which from what I understand is normal. Secondly if it was trans where is the water going. No steam or smell from exhaust, as I said before engine seems to perform well. What about water pump? I see that sometimes that can be a problem, yet I imagine there would be a water leak somewhere. Thanks for the feed back, any other ideas.

Just brought a 2000 318ia with 154000 ks on it. Has oil in water and water level drops over a few days. No signs of water on dip stick or under filler cap, runs well and does not overheat. Can't distingush whether it is engine oil or could it be trans oil. Any suggestions.
