Hi qube. Looks like we're both doing a wagon project.

    It's leaking radiator change today.

The amount of dead flies and leaves that came out with the old radiator was crazy.

Where did you get the replacement radiator from ? I got a 2006 E61 and the radiator is leaking.

Or disconnect it, fully charge it and check the voltage 24h later... if it's dropped, even by a few volts, it's dead.

I'm dealing with the same situation. PITA.

I have fully charged it and 24 hours later the voltage dropped to about 10.7v (and it remained same even after 48 hours). I tried the "recond" option in the charger which looks like a desulphation process but don't think it has helped much. I will charge it again today and test again.

  3. I was out of country for 3 months and when I returned the car battery is dead. I took the battery out, charged it overnight (using CTEK 5A 8-Stage battery charger) and it charged fine. I used the car for the day but 2 days later the battery is again low and won't start.  I charged it again today for few hours until it showed ready on charger and was able to start the car but few hours later it wont start again.

Not sure if the battery is gone bad now and needs to be replaced or I need recharge it few times to resurrect it.

The battery is about 3-years old (Bosch DIN75)

  4. The "Toyo T1sport 245/40R18" was $184.99 this morning and with 20% Off 1-day end of month coupon, I was able to get it for $147.99.   Now the price is down to $150.99 and with "GSTFREE" 15% off, it comes to $128.34 per tyre.

They called and advised they only had 1 tyre in stock and cancelled my 2nd order. But it does not show out of stock on the website and allows to order again. Pretty weird.

  5. Thanks everyone for the valuable feedback. The price on Toyo Proxy C1 & Toyo T1S is great but they only got 1 of each in stock or not sure if the system only allows 1 per user as they are doing 20% off end of month 1-day sale.

*I was able to buy one of each Toyo Proxy C1 & Toyo T1S in 1 order. Then Placed a second order on my wife's name for one of each tyre. If both the orders go thru, I will end up with 2 sets of different models. I will put one model on front and one on rear.

  6. I am planning to replace tyres in next few months on my E61 (245/40/18). I hardly use it once a week for grocery stores (in last 3.5 years, I have put less than 10K kilometers on it), so I am thinking putting economy non RFT tyres instead of high performance RF's. Can anyone recommend on any  (like Altenzo Sports Comforter or GOODRIDE SA07?

Happy for you to let me know if you don't recommend economy tyres ?

    I am in Wellington.

  7. bmw told me they use a 5w30 castrol srs professional or something but castrol edge is perfectly fine to use it meets the a3/b4 and its a fully synthetic oil. got it for $85 ish for a 5L bottle, so i got 3 bottles for the e46 and a e39 which has the m52 engine. its been done already on the e39 and runs so much better than before, when it was previously done using a 10w40 semi synthetic oil. hopefully i will do the oil change every 10,000kms from now on seeing its not overly difficult at all :) long live bmw! edit: quick google tells me its probably castrol SLX professional

Hi Kyu, can you confirm if you are using Castrol Edge Engine Oil - 5W-30 . I cannot find Castrol SLX Professional anywhere in NZ.

  8. I have recently purchased a 2006 530i Wagon from Japan with about 95K mileage. The vehicle will arrive in NZ in mid July but from what I read in online forums, most of the cars fail compliance on brakes and require new brake pads and possibly rotors. Not knowing the condition of the brakes on the car I purchased, I am planning to buy the pads & rotors before head. If I don't need them compliance, i might use them in future at a later time.

    Can anyone

    1. Recommend a good brand of Brake Pads and Rotors (the combination that works good).
    2. Any store/site in NZ that sells these items and reasonably priced
    3. If I cannot find some thing in NZ, I am fine in importing them from US or else where
    4. A mechanic in Wellington who is reasonable. I have replaced brake pads in the past on my E36 while in US but never done rotors. I might end up DIY unless I need to do it for compliance.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. Can anyone recommend a good and reasonable and compliance center in Wellington ? I have read all over the compliance can be pain if there they need things to be fixed like brake pads/rotors/battery/tyres. Can any also recommend a mechanic place to repair any issues that are highlighted during compliance. If there is a place than do all compliance, registration, repairs, that would be great.

  10. Hi

Lots of questions and I can give you the answers but will get writers cramp and it is easier to talk you through the process by phone. Can you PM me your phone number and best time to call and I will give you a ring if you like ?

    Cheers

    Ron

I was able to speak with Lachlan (who I believe no longer works at JPC Trade) and he gave me most of the details and I was quite happy with info. I ended up bidding on a 2006 530i with 95K mileage and grade 4.

The car is expected to ship sometime next week and expected to arrive in Wellington on July 13th. The sales rep said he will mail the required documentation a week after the car is shipped and I will get a call from shipping line agent.

Can anyone advise on whats the process and what I should be doing once the car arrives at port ?

  11. I see few of you have recommended JPCTrade. Can you please provide additional details ? Reviewing the site I understand the process is:

    1. Register on JPCTrade site and give an initial deposit of US$1000 which will allow you to bid on vehicles.
    2. How does the bidding process work ? It live bidding like Trademe where the bids from all prospect sellers are added to it and they keep bidding until the end (time) ? Or there is a reserve price that if there is only 1 bid at starting price, the car will be unsold ?
    3. If the bid is successful, I understand the JPCTrade will send a full invoice which includes the total cost of car + shipping + FOB Charges (Agency Fee, Inland Transportation Fee, Documents, Maritime Insurance). Can any advise what the expected FOB charges are ?
    4. What would I need to arrange or plan when the vehicle arrives in Port ? I live in Wellington CBD.
    5. Are there any tips or recommendations on how to select a vehicle as we don't get to see it physically ? If I select a Score 5 or 4.5, will that guarantee the vehicle will pass NZ Compliance without any issues ? Will a Score 4 vehicle recommended ?
    6. If I made a initial US$1000 deposit and end up not find a vehicle to my liking, will that funds fully refundable ? Has anyone done this before and who easy it to get full refund (less paypal fees I understand) ?

Any help or feedback is really appreciated.
