  1. Hi everyone,

I've been looking at getting an x3 20d with the n47t engine. This engine is common in a lot of 20d vehicles from the early 2010s. Reading online it seems the engine is prone to timing chain failures. In some countries, BMW issued a recall and also provided some support if the chain failed. Does anyone have experience with the n47t engine? Did BMW ever do something about them?

    Cheers

Depends on what required i suppose. My old M20 setup was fine apart from the installer using the wrong release bearing causing poor pedal engagement, i did want to put much more power thru it than the stock M52 2.8L it was on so i went with the E46 M3 dual mass and M54 clutch setup to support the 3L. Ive never had any chatter from BMW factory single mass flywheels on any car and the car drove way better than it does now as it didnt have a self adjusting clutch (which i cant wait to wear out)

I dont mean to high jack the thread but what short engagement problems did you have? Too high or too low? Do you remember what size release bearing you went with?

To the OP, the cross member will also be different for the ZF if you decide to go that route.

  3. Thanks for the one supplier Brent. Also found these guys https://www.msel.co.nz/epages/motorsportelectronics.sf/en_NZ/?ObjectPath=Categories which look pretty good. I'm not particularly keen on ordering in an OEM loom as they seem to have the same issue and you have to splice it in rather than use connectors. Plus for the cost I can make my own with high grade flexible wire, seething and connectors on either end so I can service it later if it decides to fail again.

  4. Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew where to buy electrical wiring locally in NZ? I'm looking at rebuilding the rear hatch wiring loom to my e34 touring but it looks like getting some good cable is difficult. Jaycar doesn't have much of a selection and the stuff at Supercheap and Repco is a laugh. Looking for something that is flexible, fine multistrand, and preferably comes in different colors.

  5. agreed with most of the comments above. Poor brand budget tires may seem alright in the dry but perform horribly in the wet. You don't need to break the bank for good enough tires but you should consider tires that match the car and keep you safe also. +1 on RE003 and the lower end models of Pirelli's, Toyo's, Falken's etc. I'd say Michelin too but lets be real, non of their tires are inexpensive.

  6. Hi guys,

One of my SLS struts on my touring has started to leak. Does anyone have any experience with shock re-builders in the auckland area? I'm looking specifically at these guys:

    Suspension Tech: http://www.stech.co.nz/about-us/

    Race Shock: https://raceshocks.co.nz/services.aspx

    Autolign: http://www.autolign.co.nz/#

And yes I want to keep the SLS system. I don't want to swap it out.

    Cheers

However, those two identical vehicles very rarely exist, and there are many, many more important things that NZ new in determining the value.

The majority of "NZ New" cars I have seen have been either poorly optioned and / or badly serviced with badly stone chipped bumpers and bonnets.

and a service history that comprises of only WoF certificates.....

  8. Hi guys,

I've purchased yet another e34 this past weekend to strip parts from it and also remove the engine (after over a year of planning it looks like im finally starting my build :D). I'm wondering if anyone has an engine crane for sale or if anyone has any tips on where to get a decent one for a reasonable price in Auckland.

    Cheers
