Hello NZ0073 i have just posted a topic about my soft top motor under my name, hooked. I hadnt seen your post above before then. Do you have experience with replacing these? Apologies Amit for pushing in on your topic.

Hi everyone. My soft top has stopped working. When i press the “top down” button the windows partially open as usual and The motor that runs the unlock/lock mechanism then partially opens the top but then it doesnt move any further. I can hear a sort of clicking sound where the hydraulic motor is situated but nothing is happening. I have checked the manual opening red pull out ring under the left side of the tray and it is engaged so am guessing the motor may be stuffed. I havent had any professional diagnosis yet but did call BMW to get a price for the part and installation cost. I was ready for the part price $1150 but not ready for their installation price which was to say the least exorbitant, apparently it would take them at least 3 days!!!!! Who out there has had to replace this mechanism? I have looked on youtube and there are many quite well detailed videos of this work. I think i could possibly handle the removal of the softtop then replacing it but not so sure of the electrical bits. Can anyone suggest advice or even better somewhere that could do this job for at least a reasonable cost? I am based in Christchurch. Thanks for any thoughts John

Thanks Don. I omitted to say i had a Z4 about 7 years ago. So second time around for me but last one was 2.5 motor so looking forward to the large one. That previous one had 18 inch 255’s on the rear so to be honest I wasnt thinking that they woudnt fit. I was more concerned that the z3 might be supposed to have the different sizes front and rear. I appreciate your speedy response.

Hi all. Have just purchased 2003 3 litre z4 with 16 inch rims running 205 non run flats all round. Also own a 2000 z3 2 litre that has 17’s with 245’s rear and 225’s front. Was thinking of swapping these sets ie z4 to z3 and vice versa. I have trawled numerous forums and i cant find anything that would suggest its a bad idea. Most sites seem to say that the bolt pattern is the same so i am hoping it might work for me!!! Can anyone help please. Thanks
