  1. Hi everyone, well i bought a E46 M3, with just under100,000kms on it nz new, .needs stone chips sorted but think i will just use it as is. decided it was a good choice and half the price i might have spent on a  1M. will get some photos up soon, amoff to highlands this weekend then down to invercargill on sundat to watch the drags, might even put the M3 down the quarter mile.

Will be M spotting while i am road tripping

Living in Northern California, I try and keep an eye on the M5’s for sale across the USA on a regular basis. I do see manual E60’s pop up for sale from time to time. Usually they have a premium over SMG’s in terms of price. One of the car club members I met here in SF has an e39 M and a manual E60, and he claims the manual E60 is absolutely epic. Said he also loved the feel of the factory e60 short shifter so much that he ordered one for his e39 as well!

yep that was what i was thinking, the manual 6 speed would be so much more engaging for the driver than the smg.epic!! .all that extra hp over the E39 with the 6 speed manual.. i want one, and yes i have noted they are a premium over the smg ones, hence they are popular and it would seem a more enjoyable engaging drive.. if you ever get to drive one let us know what its like, maybe the club members one, and drive his E39 and tell how they feel.. very interested to know the difference.

  3. Have always been a fan of the E39 M5, in part because of the bar it set when it first appeared, and also the truely awesme V8 of the time, and even more so because of that 6 speed manual gearbox allowed one to reaally enjoy that V8

Then came the 507kw V10 E60.. but the 6 speed manual was gone.. but wait it seems it wasn't quite gone, in fact it was an option on North american cars about 1,300 were produced.

That 507 hp V10 hooked up to true 6 speed manual gearbox, to die for isn't it ?. I mean the SMG gearbox was what ruined the E60 M5 ?, i wonder could you import one from the states, even though the car was available here it wasnt in manual form, yea you have to keep it 4 years but manual V10.. worht it ? lots of fun value.

  4. The touring M5 is nz new and low km so has the best creds possible, way better than any uk import with higher kms. as for the not hinkng nzz new is better look at the market almost any nz new car no matter what make or models is worth more than the same as an import, so not sure where you get your thinking from the market does show nz new cars are worth more ..period !!

Not sure the  NZ vs import history is as big a deal as we all make it out to be. You can can get full BMW service history in any car now, likewise any crash history etc. The low KMs is definitely nice and I like the grey, (it would match one of my other BMWs). As for the hard wired radar and CIC ; mods which have no real resale value in my opinion, especially on a collectors car.

those who haven't; check out the top gear episode on the M5 Touring. Got to love powerful wagons!

when it comes to salted import uk roads it does matter, and say singapore imports with all that electrical killing humidity it matters, nz new cars will always be worth more in nz than imports

Absolutely mate - it's a very different proposition. This has collector status due to it's rarity whereas the F10 is an ultimate daily.

You only need to look at the E34 touring vs. sedan prices today to see where these will likely head.

    Thanks mate!

Bang on. The black one was also a UK import - nothing wrong with that however this does half the mileage, comes with full NZ history (plus hard wired radar and CIC system for the geeks!).

Uk import does matter i feel when considering value and resale, being uk import hurts it... buy nz new always.

Fair enough .... until this came along. What a shame it wasn’t made!!

My point is BMW might as do what Mercedes does now and badge everything with an “AMG” of some sort and capitalise on it (also at the same time dilute the brand) and slap a M badge on every second model they make ... oh wait ...

We went to view in it my mates E39 M5. After driving the 1M, he let me drive his M5 on the way home, to be honest i was impressed, half the price manual and it has some serious go. and is definately a true M.

Wasn’t the 850CSi also “engineered” by motorsport? But it never received the M status .... perhaps back then Motorsport understood what “motorsport” meant? Rather than having their balls pulled along by the marketing department nowdays?

Correct, though it is considered to be ab M car.

There were hardly any options to choose on an NZ New 1M, everything was included in the base price. The Valencia (?) orange paint was a new colour for the 1M but cost the same as black / grey / white, etc.

This may not have been the case in other markets. If you are getting your info from the net, check which country it refers to when they call these features "options".

ok thanks, there are a few for sale at present but this one seems to be best value, not sure i like white on any car. still pondering that option

@Den can probably provide some advice on 1Ms :) They're an awesome vehicle and holding their value extremely well ….

    And welcome to Bimmersport!

Hi, looking at the private sale 1M on Trademe as an option, low kms , has the up sce colour option to orange, and is fully specd for one of these.

What’s the deal with the brake energy regeneration thing, looks heavy.

blog says it is system designed to save fuel really save energy , so more power when accelerating.. doesnt seem to add weight, this car has every option you could get. low kms as well. but the price is up there at retail .
