  1. Looking at buying a new SUV and I'm tempted to get a 2010 X1 25i which has the N52 engine with no forced induction. I am well aware that the N52 is reliable, but has some issues and needs proper maintenance. However I am a little worried about the xdrive setup and transfer case on this first gen of the X1. Google seems to mention this issue, but it doesn't seem to be that common judging by the lack of threads I can find mentioning the issue. I know that all cars have issues and I'm curious to know if this is a common issue. The car will be a new jap import so history on the car is limited but mileage is only on about 80k. If tire rotations were not done properly can I expect to have to replace any of the diffs or transfer case any time soon? And if so could I generally fix it myself with some new bearings or are there any workshops that do this as the cost for a new diff or transfer case seem to be quite high? I like the X1 as its a small SUV so planning to tow a jetski or small boat from time to time and it's big enough for the odd trips to bunnings. I don't drive much during the week as I work from home so not too bothered by the fuel usage. I am more interested in the reliability and power curve of the straight 6 all packaged in a decent but compact SUV. Is it worth the risk or should I be looking elsewhere? What are your thoughts? Edit: the other option I'm considering is the audi Q5 which is a little bigger than what I'm looking for and a bit more expensive. They also have issues, but nothing too major. My preference would be to stay away from the 2.0 Tfsi and go with the 3.2V6 which a little more reliable(I think).
