Love a Herald, had lots of fun in & working on many a Herald, Vitesse, Spitfire & GT6.

Is yours a proper convertible? Seen a few saloons with the bolt on roof removed and a weird style soft top.

    It's an original factory convertible.

  2. Last week after starting my car the steering lock would not release after starting the car.I called a locksmith and he said he could fix it so I could at least drive it home .After about 25 minutes and a lot of drilling he managed to get the steering wheel to turn but warned me that I should drive straight home as it could lock up any time while driving. That cost me $200 and he said I needed to get somebody to properly fix it .I have since tried to get several locksmiths to fix it so I could drive the car without worrying about the steering locking up while driving,so far nobody wanted to get involved and a couple quoted me about a $900 to fix it.I just cannot afford this sort of expense. If anyone has any other option.I would be welcome to hear from.

My other option is to sell the car as is and start using my Gold Card on the buses. The car is a 1996 318IS ,done 150000 km and is quite tidy with 17 genuine Motorsport wheels.Car is pictured on my profile.Any offers are welcome

  3. On closing the door(window up)it makes a `like crunching gears`sound when the glass iches up to close the gap.

Hope this description makes sense. What would be causing this?

I noticed a few weeks ago when closing the window,it would only go half way up .After shutting then and opening the door a few times it closed all the way up.

I`m to scared to lower the window now, just in case it won`t go up all the way.(car is parked outside and don`t want to risk getting water inside.

  4. I`m thinking of selling my 1996 318is.Average condition.BMW motorsport wheels,Auto Trans has been overhauled 12 mths ago,both lower B.joints and inner rackends replaced 2 weeks ago.2 new tyres , Needs a tidy-up,roof lining sagging a bit.

What sort of price would I be looking for?

having problems uploading photo.car can be seen on my profile.

  5. my transmission suddenly died while stopped at traffic lights. Dropped from D into neutral and would go only by shifting into N. Managed to get home, gears shifting o.k. while in `N` position. After parking in drive way,I could not get into reverse or any other position.Had it towed to Eastern Automatics in Newton and they told me it probably a clutch band welded and they gave me the impreesion it would be quite a job (5-7 working days to repair)So what am I going to do? Can`t really afford a lot of money to spend on it.

Any advice what I should do?Get it fixed or is it not worth it?

  6. Nice......but where's he mast ;)

Don`t need a Mast for this mission. It`s off to the Film studios (GFC(germany)Ltd/Firehorse Films)

to be in one of their productions. They`ll be using it for 4 weeks.

Nice little return as well, almost 3/4 what I paid for it.

  7. We could do it next week. The leak may look excessive, however it may not be too bad yet. Just check the level.

    HI Glenn,

I will give a call to book my car in to get diff. seals done as soon as I get my other problems sorted.

A rather large tree branch fell on my car at the Warehouse car park in New Lynn a couple of weeks ago, damaging the boot, guard and other bits. This afternoon I received a phone call ,authorising me to take my car a a panel shop in New Lynn next week. As soon as I have all this done,I will contact you re replacing differential seals.

    cheers ,Ewald.

(attached pic is of the offending branch after being removed from my bonnet.)

  8. The seal are worth about $35 each..diff oil $50 and about 2 hrs work. You need to remove the rear exhaust, sway bar, axles and half shafts. Install new seals, change the diff oil, reassemble and road test. Then recheck for leaks

Hi Glenn, would you be able to do the job? How soon would you recommend to have it done without causing (if) further damage?

I live in West Auckland, but don`t mind travelling east to get the job done.

    Cheers,Ewald.
