  1. Thanks Glenn..rechecked codes and need the exhaust camshaft sensor. I ordered a new one and the coil, will try, clear and retest. Thanks again for your help!
  2. That's awesome good to hear! He sells the camshaft sensor for $110 with 2 year guarantee etc..and BMW for almost $400..what a joke. Do you guys reckon I need the plug for the sensor too (like in the other sensor auction)? Is it good practice to replace that with the sensor?
  3. Ran diagnostics and faulty coil for #3 cylinder and also faulty cam shaft sensor. Looking at parts they quoted me a stupid amount from BMW. Mike at Parts Plus (Powerhaus) in Wellington said $115 for coil and $260 for cam sensor + GST.. However I saw these on trademe, apparently Bosch and come with warranty...any thoughts?? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-...n-451563155.htm - for coil http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-...n-449790041.htm - for cam OR http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-...n-451334193.htm
  4. Car was in a garage for two days to get a mag wheel repaired after someone took their tow bar to it. When I picked up the car after hours, the service engine soon light came on and stayed on (no flashing or anything). Nothing abnormal with the car otherwise, no idle issues or loss of power. Pretty sure it's unrelated to the repair it got, just seems like a weird coincidence that it happened right then. I haven't had a chance to talk to garage since it's Friday night. Anyway looking for someone in Wellington region that might have a OBD tool to run a diagnostic test in exchange for a box of beer or cash. Running this as an alternative before I go to a BMW mechanic. I already checked the usual easies like fuel cap being loose, etc. Since I'm here...weird thing that is happening, when my boot gets slammed the electric boot unlock button doesn't work anymore and the rear lights warning light comes on. I took the boot unlock/plate lights thing apart and everything worked, put it back together and voila no more lights and boot unlock works. But now and again it does it again, and what I have to do is open the boot, push the button a few times till it works and gently close the boot and it starts to work again and warning light disappears. Any ideas to what it might be? Maybe the wiring?? Thanks in advance for the help!
  5. I did a bit of reading from other people's experiences and last night I decreased the typre pressure slightly, might even put something heavy in the boot. I really don't think snow tires would be an option, considering cost and I'd be using them for 2 days a year. Definitely learning how to control it better in the snow is a must!
  6. So I was driving home today from Lower Hutt to Wellington on motorway about 6pm...snow got quite heavy and left about 5cm on the road. This is the first time I drove a RWD in the snow, with summer tires...sh*t it was barely driveable...went about 20-30 kms in low gear but had quite a few moments of sliding and lock. On a corner corolla next to me started swerving so had to stop..then it was fun times of serious wheel spin before I got going again... So just asking for advice really. What do you guys do in the snow, do you usually drive with chains or snow tires? Any advice otherwise? Just asking cos I was seriously suprised how uncontrollable and touchy the car was...being said I've only driven FWD or 4WD cars in the snow and never experienced something like this...
  7. Looking for LHS (passenger) fog light for a 2001 e46 320i msport mtech 1... Cheers
  8. Thanks mate. I might be getting new ones from HellBM. If it doesn't go through I'll PM you! Cheers
  9. The warranty is the Essential Cover with Autosure so it only covers mechanical or electrical components...they do have a very long list of what they don't cover and unfortunately the grill is not included. I will try though. I think all places will order through jeff gray anyways, I was looking more at actually replacing the part although it seems it is not a very difficult thing to do. I'll check the parts prices tomorrow with page and take it from there. I also PMd HellBM to see if it will be cheaper. Cheers for the info
  10. Hey guys I'm new to Wellington and need to get the final stage resistor (most likely) replaced and since my e46 320i is still under warranty I will take it to a place to get it done. I'm tossing up between Powerhaus and Page European...have any of you had good/bad experiences with either of these places? What would you recommend? Also my RHD grille clips are all broken and the grille is loose and comes out completely when the bonnet is not shut. I saw the grills for $100 on trademe new but they are made in taiwan. Any ideas where else I might be able to order some BMW ones and for how much? I haven't had a lot of luck with wreckers. I haven't checked the price with Jeff Gray yet, I can call tomorrow. Thanks in advance, any advice appreciated. Cheers guys
  11. Nice to see some more e46s on here see enough on the roads..looks like you got yourself a nice msport there!
  12. Fair enough. My excess on warranty is about $300 so it's well worth getting it done professionaly and with a new part. Thanks for the advice!
  13. Thanks Glenn I did do some more research and pretty sure it's the final stage resistor block...typical of what was happening. The radio was fine at the time! I saw some detailed instructions and I could easily replace it myself but I'd rather just take it in since it's covered by warranty. I'm just skeptical I'll go in for them to check it and it will be fine at the time since now it's working great...until next time I guess. Yeah I wasn't sure what it was but after looking at final stage resistor found hundreds of forum posts..will be replacing it soon. Cheers guys!
  14. Hey guys,a few days ago drove to work, all good, aircon pumping in my e46 320i msport. When I started the car about 8 hours later, and turned aircon on, the right buttons were lit up and display showed the fan and level but no air came out at all! Turned it off and started driving home...tried turning it on during the drive but again no air. After I got home I had to leave again about an hour later, and voila the aircon was working again...properly...hot/cold both. Since then I've had no issues what so ever. It's been perfect. Im asking whether I should be worried about this and take it in to Jeff Gray or someone similar in wellie for someone to have a look at? I still got about 5 months on an autosure warranty and thought might be better to get something fixed now if it's something electrical / underlying problem... I had a look on forums but haven't spotted a case where it just doesn't work for a wee while and then it's sweet...unlike the bmw business cd player that get CDs stuck, doesn't work expect on radio and after a thump it's all good ahhh bmw...still love them. Any word of advice would be appreciated!
