  1. I know I have thanked you already Josh, but I'll say it again, thanks for the awesome job on the video! It is funny how your memory forgets a lot of the details, and how much fun it is to drive that thing:) I have watched it several times, and this reminds me of what all the hard work was for!

For those who didn't know, Jase was a very good friend of mine, and he was going to come and drive the car at HD. Would have been great to see what he could have done, I know he would have kicked butt!:)

  2. I managed to get some video using the 400mm lens of you upto the hairpin and front straight. Will splice that into the onboard footage.

Speaking of which .. still need to pop over and grab your telemetry data .. hopefully we can dump it to CSV/text data :)

I just got a new battery charger for the laptop yesterday (after the crappy chinese one I was sold last week failed to work!) So I will have a look today and see if it recorded anything in the logger. Look forward to seeing those vids, I know with your attention to detail it will be good!

    cheers Conrad

  3. and yes I am happy if you text any questions to me, but keep it real people, use proper English and send them during regular hours, up to lets say 9pm, not 12.30am like someone did the other night! <_<

    P.S. FAQ:will these tyres pass a warrant?

A: yes they probably will. They have easily more than minimum tread over 75% of the tyres width which is the WOF requirement. But the value is in the rims, and should be treated as such, tyres like this are worth nothing in my view. If you buy these and get knocked back for a WOF then that will be your problem. ;)

    SOLD!

  4. Might as well be green and recycle this old ad! ;) I have another set of these OZ wheels for sale, same again,5x120, 17"x8", ET35,all with centre caps, these have kerb rash on all wheels to varying degrees.(nothing too serious though) Tyres are Potenzas, although all worn on inside edge. Would make great race car wheels, a good size with plenty of brake clearance. Rare in this fitment. Suit E36/E46 etc. $600 set. PM or SOLDPosted Image

  5. I think you have got that backwards.

The M Coupe is ~18mm narrower on each side (than the compact) and the M Roadstar wheels are very low offset (rear: 17x9" et8). Easy to check by comparing the rotor height of the E36 M3 rear rotors Vs the Compact.

Correct that they do use the same, larger bearings/CV's/axles & brakes from the rear of the E36 M3.

And that the Z3 drive flanges will fit the compact trailing arms/bearings.

Thinking about it, I was comparing to E30 arms, I didn't realise the compact had a wider track. The MZ3 also has different brake caliper mountings that will take the big M3 calipers. :)

  6. ....Wow... I hadnt seen this one before. Must have been an awesome feeling to be in that. A lot of trust in your codriver thats for sure.

Im not saying the rear suspension is bad and there are many point of views, Ive just been convinced to one of them.

Wont be doing mutch work on the car this weekend as im away down in the south island but am still doing a bit of research on body kits at the mo.

Does any one know how much wider Z3 arms are compared to E30??

    1.8 Z3: same as Compact I think.

2.8 Z3: I don't think the arms are any wider. They use a wide offset drive flange and a brake disc with a really deep "hat" to match. I think they widen the rear track about 50mm per side, so they can fill the wider rear arches on the non M Z3 with the same size wheels as fitted to the front. You can fit these to the compact arms, but it just has the same effect as using wheel spacers.

MZ3: about 20mm wider per side, and they use much higher offset rear wheels to fill the arches. These arms are the ones to have, they have the bigger brakes (same as E36 M3) and use much bigger driveshafts/CV joints than the non M arms. I think the wheel bearing is larger diameter too. Hard to find though.

  7. Surely you wouldn't be able to stretch any more power out of that motor without forced induction. Huge amount for a four cylinder.

some of the engine bulders in Europe have squeezed around 420hp out of these, 2.7L and 11000 rpm hillclimb engines, frequent rebuilds though! A friend of mine in the Sth Island has a 390hp 2.7L, and it makes mine look very "ordinary!" :o

haha .. very nice conrad. If you dont mind, im quite keen to photo it for the calendar next year?

No problem, it is on an engine stand at the moment, but still assembled. Give me a couple of months and I will have two of them here! ;)

  8. but still comes down to would really like to know how you change a crankshaft by griding etc makes no sense

It is called "offset grinding" and what the engine ship does is grind the bearings for the big ends off centre to where they were, the centres are ground further away from the crankshaft centreline, which is a cheap way of making a "stroker" crank. What it also means is that the big ends are now smaller in diameter than they used to be (not always a bad thing) so you need to find rods and bearings to match the smaller size. Only really achievable on some engines, and the gains are usually only 200cc or so. So probably not a cost effective solution for you, it usually a last resort to squeeze more capacity out of an engine when no other options exist.

  9. Kayne Barrie on 0274975330 (KBMotorsport). Dif specialist

    +1

Kayne has prepared a lot of the LSD's in the BMW race cars (open class only! including mine) and I can't speak highly enough of his work. A very clever chap who won't rip you off. I believe that is who Mal Clark sends his diffs to as well.

The road car BMW LSD's are no good for track work, they are set up so soft you won't know you have one fitted.

For a seriously good upgrade he will machine the ramp angles to suit, machine extra clearance inside the housing for an extra set of clutch plates, set the whole thing up inside the housing and you will have an LSD that will last many seasons racing. He charges a fair price for an excellent job.

  10. Haha..what redline :)

Its a bit of a scam tho.. Its actually on a rolling dyno..

I think you are spot on there. I have driven some very fast cars, and this sort of acceleration would put it right up there, if not faster than 500hp F40 I was lucky enough to drive a few weeks ago. It is the acceleration over 100kph that gives it away, you would need some serious hp to do that. 0-240 k's in 30 seconds? And while holding a video camera in one hand? I don't think so Tim!!!!!!

  11. Delete cookies, temp files, cache etc

Also download the latest version of CCleaner @ CCleaner.com

(Should sort it, and speed your pc up :))

I have been putting up with this for months too! Thought something was up with the website. Deleted all the cookies etc.etc. and that sorted it.

    Thanks! :D

  12. Technically quite clever, probably designed by a blackbelt in Origami. But as Bravo said, must be a total bitch to ride, both loaded and unloaded.I don't imagine the poor little motorcycle clutch would take too much of that either, never mind the rest of the running gear. Not exactly what it was designed for.... Must admit, it gave me a laugh!

Sometimes the Japanese are just a bit TOOOOO different in their thinking!........

  13. I have never seen this on Sky Conrad. I can post the links for you to download the races if you like. But you would need a rapidsahre account. Unless I download them and put it on a disk for you.

    Links would be good thanks!

They showed most of the races last year (except the final few!) on Sky Sport. Don't seem to be on this year, I suppose if it isn't rugby..........

    cheers Conrad
