Thank you for your quick response.

Can you tell a little bit more, can I get BMW software tools, what kind of tools, how is it called?

Or do I need to go to a BMW dealer.. they don’t want to cooperate very much because the BMW is imported ! :(

(I’ve got the same problem with the sat-nav and the telephone)

    Regards,

    Jo

Yes you can get the software. Here's the process:

    1. Become an accredited BMW workshop

    2. Purchase the software from BMW

Should you chose not to go down that route, then contact a BMW garage - official or independent, your choice

  2. Whilst the car looks identical from the outside you always have to remember you cannot see the loaded software versions, and that the VIN number is stored in many devices.

My recommendation is to change the radio bands using BMW software. This will avoid all issues with incompatible parts, inconpatible functions, and incompatible VIN numbers.

You are free to make your own decision as to whether you follow my recommendation or not.

And whether it is "cheap" or "expensive" is entirely relative to your personal financial situation, that is for you to decide.

    Hi
    I have a 2007 750i

Wanna change the radio frequency from Japan to Oceania or Europe & i read Jochen's post on the same

It says when the Radio turns on press the 'M" button - where is that "M' button ??? I don't see it anywhere

Is it the Main i drive round knob you referring to ... Please help ...

    Thanks

You need to have the radio system reprogrammed, there's no other way on your car.

Ask around if someone can reprogram for you

  4. I have the 4:3 nav unit double din. 1997 E39 540i. Been a huge mission sorting sounds out for my car

Be aware that when you remove the nav system you loose the ability to adjust and set

    Date

    Time

    Trip Computer

    Security Code

(and more, depending on what options are fitted)

All speaker wires are in the rear of the vehicle, you will have to run speaker wire from the front to the rear.

  5. Hi Jochen, just recently bought a 2002 735i E65 which had been imported from Japan and as a result has the Japanese band limitations. I was about to go and get a band expander fitted but happened across this thread and wondered what (if any) more simplistic solution might work for this particular model?

The drive back from Auckland to Wellington was torture without any music/radio etc so hoping you can help. It also has Japanese satnav but i'm less concerned about that. What I would really like is a solution that gives me NZ radio stations and the option to plug my ipod into an Aux.

Cheers and thanks is advance - Steve

    Hi

Do NOT fit a band expander, you will always be disappointed with the results.

If you value your V8 7-series top of the line BMW, then just recode the car. No physical changes necessary, all you do is reprogram the radio tuner.

There are guys on this forum who recode BMWs in NZ (I am not in NZ anymore) so look at the forum posts and search for "recode". hotwire is one guy, he's in Hamilton.

And if you want the nav changed, then you're up for a hardware change. But it is possible. Again, talk to hotwire.

As for the iPod, google "E65 ipod interface" and you will find lots of threads and solutions

  6. Thanks for the tip Jochen. Do you mean the next recode of the entire car and is it possible to change the country coding, which you are correct is Japan.

I changed the the ccc settings to "ece" instead of "oceania" because these where the settings that I found but it works great.

PS. I have also read a lot of your posts which helped me alot :D

Remember: you only coded the radio, not the car

The BMW coding system works like this:

    1. First read the VehicleOrder, and workout the vehicle coding. A part of the vehicle coding is the country code, in your case, it is set to JAPAN

    2. Then recode all modules according to the correct coding data for the country variant, in your case: JAPAN

So: if you ever connect to a BMW diagnostic system and the operator does a complete vehicle recode, then it will detect that the current radio coding (set for ECE) does not match the vehicle country coding (set for JAPAN), and it will do it's job and correct the radio coding to what it is programmed to do: JAPAN

Your solution (recode radio only) will work fine as long as you never have a entire vehicle recode

Of course, the proper way to permanently set the vehicle correctly for use in NZ, is to change the Country Coding of the vehicle (by altering the Vehicle Order) to NEW ZEALAND (or OCEANIA or whatever the right value is), and then recode the vehicle.

  7. On this, how much watts is being powered to the speakers on a system with the amp in the boot?

    I have the 4:3 monitor, 1997 540i

    With or without DSP?

    With or without subwoofer?

    Standard amp:

    DSP Amp:

    10 Channels x 25W per channel = 250W

    (Front = 6 channels, rear = 4 channels)

    Standard Amp:

    25W per bass channel = 4x25 = 100W

    15W per mid and per high range channel = 6x15 = 60W

    Total = 160W

Add subwoofer at about another 30W per channel, 2 channel, = another 60W or so.

  8. Thanks for the info, I've tried this but it doesn't show Japan or Oceania....got to the serial numbers and scrolled thru.....

Anyone out there can help? Much appreciated.

Then the radio is the older model, and you cannot change AREA via software.

Replace the radio with the Euro model with is reprogrammable.

  9. It appears I have a rather odd system in the M5. Has the Mk2 4:3 onboard monitor, but no dsp, and no hifi - just 6 speakers - I couldnt see an amp in the boot with the 9pin and 26pin connector for the 10 speaker arrangement. There is also a seperate MID in the rear centre console, that has the ability to change stations, switch between radio, tape and cd. The OBC functions can also be displayed.

Thinking that I did have the amp, I was just going to install a small old-school Alpine 2 channel amp to power a sub to fill in the low end. I have done this on my previous 540i that had the 10 speaker hifi system, and was happy with it, as im not cranking it up passed 11 like i used to when i was younger.

So with the stereo I have in the M5, i'm wondering how many watts continuous is being powered to the 6 speakers? Im thinking about just replacing the front 5.25 woofers and tweeters with some mid-range Alpine component units. I'm not going to bother though if the output is something really measly like <5 watts rms per channel.

Depending on what radio module is fitted, it'll be either:

BTL, delivering "high power", around 25W RMS per channel (4 channels)

non-BTL, delivering "low power" around 6W RMS per channel (4 channels)

So tell us what radio module is fitted (read the label on the module, or query it using NavCoder)

  10. I plug it in and I get radio working perfectly straight off the bat. But my cd, iPod and aux cable don't produce and sound thru the speakers.

Are you using the radio power antenna cable to switch on the amp?

If so, it may only switch on the amp when the radio needs the antenna up: ie, when the radio is ON.

You want the amp-on cable to be connected to something that powers the amp when needed.

The lazy way is to switch the amp on all the time the ignition is on, eg: wire it to the ign switch.

the proper way is to wire it to the radio so it is on when the radio is on, buy your 2old skool DIN HU" may not support that function

But if it is REALLY old skool, then the glow from the valve filaments will illuminate the dash area nicely at nighttime.....

  11. Re the Navigation System - I've had one quote for $1250 but at that figure will not be rushing..... Any lower prices out there?? Trade Me has an ad by certain person from Te Awamutu who may just be on this forum....

He is on this forum :) (but not me)

If you don't want to pay the money for someone else to do it, then do it yourself.

You'll need a BMW Mk4 nav computer, search ebay for the current going rates....

  12. Hi. I have just purchased a 2006 E85 Z4M roadster. It is ex-Japan and fitted with a "BMW Navigation System". I wish to 1. use the FM tuner on NZ frequencies

    2. use the navigation function

I've tried to follow the 5 steps in your post but there is no "m" button to press/hold, only a "mode" and "menu" button. Do you know how to get into service menu on a Navigation System?

Can anyone provide a lead to have the navigation mode made functional for NZ.

Radio can be reprogrammed by hand

Nav Computer must be replaced and then full NZ nav is possible

  13. I got a Japan import 2005 BMW 320i with an aftermarket radio ECLIPSE AVN9904HD. Has anyone encountered setting this up to work in NZ (if this is even possible)? I have googled and cant find a user manual. I can't read Japanese so I'm stuck...

Google revealed 14,600 results on AVN9904HD, around 90% of them in Japanese

That pretty much confirms the radio is a Japanese market only radio, and thus quite likely that it is not a reprogrammable radio.

Googling for the model number and PDF reveals some interesting results, like:

The manufacturer is Fujistsu Ten, a long standing manufacturer of car radios

    This is interesting reading:

    http://www.fujitsu-ten.com/business/techni...al/pdf/24-4.pdf

    It revealled the following:

    It's a 2004 model, quite recent

The previous years model was the AVN9903HD.

The system diagram is interesting :D

There are many references to Japan-only functions, like VICS, and FM de TITLE

    Good Luck!
