For sale - our 1996 Bmw 528i SE Manual, which has been in the family since 2003. Hard to find with the ZF 5-speed gearbox- I have only ever seen two other 528i's like this in NZ. This car was $114,000 new! SE spec means full leather interior with electric seats, helping to make it very comfortable long distance and I have had it running between 7-8L/100km on trips, 9.5L/100km around town. Most of it's mileage has been on the open road.

Full service history, this car has always flown through warrants without issue. It has had a new battery installed in the last few months. Our mechanic has said the main issue with this model is the automatic gearbox, so this is the one to have! As a higher-mileage example the paint looks fine from a distance but has a few imperfections. The central locking is sometimes temperamental locking from the driver's door, but is completely reliable locking from the boot lid. A few of the lcd pixels have failed in the clock/head unit however this does not affect its function.

    Aftermarket additions are as follows:

-3M Full Car Tint, at 35% visible light transmittence (the darkest legal tint) applied by Car Folie Ltd Apr '11 with 5 year warranty. Has WFAANZ stickers in front windows to help indicate compliance

    -K&N drop-in replacement air filter

-DEPO smoked headlights, side markers and tail-lights. All legal and never had any complaints about them. the full set cost over $400 in '08

-19 inch BBS LM Replica wheels (Versus YSM-944 19x8.5) these cost $1200 plus tyres from magandtyredirect.com in Apr '11, all tyres have 5mm+ of tread

WOF from VTNZ valid to 2.2.13

    Registration valid to 19.2.13

  2. Looks great! A slight lower and blacking out of the chrome would set this off IMO. Plans for old wheels? (From 08 photo)

Cheers! Yeah I plan to de-chrome it a bit, black out the trim, some facelift halo lights and I'd like to lower it a little bit. The old wheels are going to be sold (haven't got around to listing them yet).

  3. Even a crap wet day today couldn't spoil a good week- new cosmetics from our forum sponsors for me in the form of Tints from Car Folie and new BBS style 19" LM's from Jono at Mag and Tyre Direct leave me pretty happy!

The car we have had in the family since 2003, from 118,000km then to 287,000km today, still motoring along nicely- and now receiving some long-earned attention.

  4. Tomo - that's a little bit alarmist don't you think?

Ok so anarchy is a little strong, guess i just don't like the lycra brigade getting self righteous over something small like that and blowing it way out of proportion- like others say, I imagine most people like the novelty rather than the idea as a feasible transport solution. If they're that determined to cycle to the city they can go coatesville- riverhead- massey- pt. chev. They'd get bloody fit that way. Just stay off the motorways- the bridge is for cars, it's always been that way, and it's the law.

  5. Updated article

I agree that you should stand up for any issue you feel passionately about, but I find civil disobedience with blatant disregard for others reprehensible. They managed to have that side of the bridge shutdown as a tanker carrying oxygen supplies to North Shore Hospital was going through, and now threaten action that will make this incident look like "a walk in the park"? What extremist tactics are they going to use next, chaining themselves to all lanes of the bridge?

I think there were a few determined protesters and a whole lot of sheep there yesterday, once one broke the fence the whole herd went through. And parents bringing along their kids who are too young to make their own decisions? Its wrong...

My dad works with the Auckland Motorway Alliance, and tells me the group have been consulted with, there was even a bus service setup to facilitate their needs of carrying people and their bicycles across the bridge and this had to be shut down as they refused to use it. That is likely to be the best they're going to get until another harbour crossing is made and any further efforts are downright stupid.

I am however disappointed that the Police failed to manage the demonstration appropriately, they clearly did not have a strong enough presence and should have forseen what a group of 2000+ people could have had in their minds having failed to get approval, and should have held the line.

  6. NZ Herald article

I was actually in favour of some form of pedestrian and cycleway attachment to the harbour bridge, i thought it would be a novel addition. However im appalled at how protesters essentially took over a major piece of infrastructure, halting all traffic north!! Not the place for people to protest, and they did it the wrong way without NZTA or Police approval, forcing their way through police barricades!?! They should have been met with a riot team and cuffed in my opinion. I was heading south over the bridge at the time and just couldn't believe it, they ended up getting walked over by police.

Just crazy. And it probably wont even help their cause.
