cainchapman 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 The float sensor ages over time, as the heat changes it's bouyancy. Just drive it to a dealer and ask for a new one. Not too much money and the problem goes away. Had it with the E34. I swapped one from Brents to check if it was the fault first. So see if someone you know with an E30 will swap for a day. Highly likely. Also, the float chamber can fill up with fluid over time. You can disassemble and clean them but as Cain says, replacing with new doesn't cost much. Yuen 16 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 The stupid thing - mine came up with the 'Check Coolant Level' error after I did a cooling system overhaul, using the old sensor. So I went out and bought a new one, and the error went away for about a week. Then it came back again and has been there ever since. JasonZE 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 mine did the same came on after refilling cooling system so I just unplugged it and put a wire loop in to stop the anoying message. The dash warning still comes on if the gauge gets to high as i found out when my water pump impellor split and stopped pumping I would have cooked it for sure if the dash had'nt "binged" and said temp high so I was lucky the warning worked. You can bridge two pins via the dignostics plug under the bonet to cancel out all the check lights untill next service, can't remember which ones, just google it. Peace.
