jdpd 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2007 Hi, i recently have noticed quite a large petrol consumption increase, i have a bmw e38 728i 1996. It used to hover around 12.8L/100km and now its up around 16L/100km. And yes ive tried reseting etc, and no my drivin style hasnt changed or my drving locations, e.g. motorway use. What are the common issues on a BMW e38 that can cause the engine to be come inefficient? Thanks!
M325is 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2007 New steel cap boots? Reading it the wrong way? I thought consumption guage reads Miles/Gallon or Km/Litre, maybe you are feathering the gas and saving more??
cainchapman 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2007 Tyre pressures dropped. Is the water temperature normal still? Hand brake? I'd get it to a mechanic for a check. You don't really want to wait until it's a major problem.

tibbs.james 1 Report post Posted August 29, 2007 When was the air filter last checked replaced ? And if my memory serves me correctly if one of the water temp senders isn't work properly can that cause problems with the ecu trying to think diffierently ? please correct me if im wrong. Checking all the regular service stuff isn't a bad idea. if it dosn't fix the problem you still might find an increase somewhere !
