how much engine oil to put in in a 328i e36 jap import?

how much engine oil do i put in inmy 328i, automatic 1996 e36 jap import?

What is the best performance oil, or good stuff? i used to use mobil 1 in my Toyota Celica, was good stuff, is this best for beamers?

As for Mobil 1, the US guys always go on about how it's the best, I'm not sure if the Mobil 1 sold here are the same formulation, but I personally use Castrol R Synthetic (now Castrol EDGE), 5w-30, and am happy with it. I would have tried Mobil 1 if it wasn't for it being more expensive than the Castrol.
