Standard E38 16 inch wheel question

I have a set of standard E38 16 inch BBS wheels (the rims with the round center cap).

My question is, can I fit older, classic rectangular BBS/BMW nut cover to these wheels?

If one has a round cap and one has a rectangular shape I would guess not, it's a bit like trying to put a square peg in a round hole

im guessing by the way youve explained the round and rectangle is only cosmetic,as long as the outer diameter of the cap is the same it should be fine.however there is two ways they lock into the rim,one is locked in the centre and the other on the edge of the cap
