Guest Zwilling Report post Posted June 13, 2004 What are you people running??? I've got a 4.45 diff
Gus 5 Report post Posted June 13, 2004 holy smokes....thats coming from an auto i take it....are you running 5 spd yet? ideally you want a 3.73....im running a 3.63....3.91 is availible but is kinda high rpm at cruising speed and gets through the engines powerband too quickly...and of course if you can get an LSD...they come in 3.73, 3.91 and 4.1 tim has a 4.1 i think....but yeah...your diff will be way too high...put something better in there
Grant 4 Report post Posted June 14, 2004 I am running a 3.73 non LSD. I am pretty sure that an auto 320i should have a 4.10 ratio. What kind of revs are you doing at 100km/h on a flat road with a 4.45 diff? Cheers
Guest Andrew Report post Posted June 14, 2004 3.73 open diff. That is a crazy diff your running.
Guest Zwilling Report post Posted June 14, 2004 Yeah, it's crazy alright, Glenn and I hoisted the car on saturday and he noted straight away it was a small looking diff, I had a looksie at the tag and it read 4 45 7. Currently i'm pulling 105~110kph @ 3000rpm with the auto box, i'm planning to stick in a 5spd box this weekend, it's going to be interesting to see what happens... Gus 5 Report post Posted June 14, 2004 would expect somewhere round 4k at 100kph....if not a little bit more
Guest Zwilling Report post Posted June 14, 2004 Nope, it's definately doing ~107kph @ 3000 rpm. It's a jappa import so maybe there's something different going on with the auto box???
Gus 5 Report post Posted June 14, 2004 sorry, i meant with the manual box auto boxes have one less gear and the gears are longer, so need a shorter differential to help make up acceleration
Guest Speedye30 Report post Posted June 14, 2004 (edited) would expect somewhere round 4k at 100kph With the Getrag 260... think about 3250rpm = 100k? This is still a bit higher than ideal... Edited June 14, 2004 by Speedye30
Guest Zwilling Report post Posted June 14, 2004 (edited) sorry, i meant with the manual boxHaha, yeah, my badAnyway, we shall see what happens after the conversion, I think Glenn may offer me his 3.46 which would be perfect seeming as I prefer the longer gears...it will be fun seeing just how pathetic having a 4.45 really is with a 5spd Edited June 14, 2004 by Zwilling
Gus 5 Report post Posted June 14, 2004 no your car will be gutless with a 3.46...give it to me ...damn first his konis now his L_D....you bitch!
Guest Zwilling Report post Posted June 14, 2004 No, his 3.46 ain't LSD, it's an open one. Will my b20 engine not be able to pull the 3.46???
Gus 5 Report post Posted June 15, 2004 well, it COULD pull it....just not very fast
Guest Zwilling Report post Posted June 15, 2004 Hmmm, has it not been done before? Know of anyone with a spare 3.73 diff???
gmccormack 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2004 I found the 3.46 perfect for the 2.3L, it might be a little steep for your 2.0L,but I'd give it a go

gmccormack 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 What's the stock diff for the 320i 5spd??? I dont know all the ratios that were offered in the 320 as they were changed over time & in different markets, but 3.45 & 3.64 are two that were fitted.
