So i just recently (a couple of weeks back) i laid my hands on this little stunner!! She joins the driveway with 3 younger sisters (all e36's)

She's badged and registered as a 318i, however lookin at the handbook, engine, ecu (jetronic) etc it is a 316i engine?? maybe someone can enlighten me?

Its an '86 prefl auto.... imported in '95 to nz. Has 212,000 on the clock and runs sweet as, body is immaculate too. Went straight through a wof, with just the front tyres and brakes bein mentioned for the future.

I have a few plans but they will be later on.....

Haha thanks, yea she's a beauty, and i'm liking the silver (black would have been nicer) but at least silver doesn't show up all the marks!

Yeah there is some room there haha, we do have to house 5 cars at the least though, 4 beemers and my work car, whatever it is (in the photo it is the xr8)

All it means is more room to start collecting parts and more bmw's!!

Slightly off topic here but anyway. I'm looking at putting some 17x7 wheels on her, maybe 215x40x17 tyres. The pcd is 4x100, am i right in the knowledge the offset is around 20-25 without the use of spacers??

Also what kind of drop can i do with just springs? i.e not changing shocks as well, i've been told around -40mm before shocks need replacing, with shortened versions?

Yeah i tried that and realoem.com and they both give the same details:

But when i checked my ecu, it is a jetronic which according to the manual is only the 316i, and the pic of the engine is the same as 316i!! I think i'll post a pic of the engine bay!

i am prolly barking up the wrong tree but the new tyre siez should relate to the ORIGINAL tyre size so that your speedo doesnt go out of whack(too muh)Ie the overall diameter of the original tyre and the new tyre is the same,they call that plus three if you go from a 14 to a 17....on my car a 235 45 17 is the same diameter as the original 15 in tyre

Haha nah your comment is cool, i went from 16's to 18's on my e36 and it has thrown my speedo slightly (the overall rolling diameter is slightly higher, but still within 5% of the orginal)

With 17x7 wheels and more than likely 215x40x17 they should be roughly the same as the 14's with a higher profile tyre! (195x65x14)

With 215x40x17 the is less than 1% diff, and 205x40x17 about a 2% diff.

Below is the pic of my engine bay, can anyway confirm that it is infact a 316i engine.

Iv had two pre face/lift 318 m10's and they both looked like that. Id imagine that you would need the engine number to find out as im pretty sure 316 and 318's have the same engine just different bore+stroke.

it will be an 1800, even the 316 for that year was just a carbed 1800.

I used a similar site to do the calculations, and will be getting the aftermarket wheels roughly the same as stock ones - i already have one speeding ticket on my e36 due to my speedo bein slightly out (was doin about 110 on clock, and actually 116kmh so the cop tells me haha)
