6 cylinder and 4cylinder diferences ,e30

Recommended Posts

so ive enquired about some coilovers for my 1984 318 e30 , and i get this in reply:

''hi mate

these coilovers come with a 2 year parts warranty

yes, the front coilovers have camber tops fitted.

be careful though, as there are two types of suspension that the E30 have.

6 cylinder suspension and 4 cylinder suspension. be sure you have the 6 cylinder suspension, otherwise these will not fit your car.

any other questions, please call me.''

could you guys shed some light on the differences if any , and how i would go about converting my current setup.

thanks heaps.

The strut widths are different, 48mm and 52mm for 325s, or thereabouts, you just need to know what ones you have thats all. i swapped 325 struts into my car from the smaller ones.

I think 318s and 320s are the same, with 325s being bigger

yip, chris is onto it. Most 320's and 4 cyls came with smaller 45mm struts. 325i's and I think late 323's came with 51mm struts. That is the general case so check before you buy. The struts can be swapped around easily enough, they do require different inserts though.

Slightly off topic but where have you sourced the coilovers? Local? I am interested in some also if they are quality kit. cheers

its not that black and white...they sound like they dont know sh*t

using assumption, the coil overs would use shocks for the 51mm shock body, not the 45mm that yours is likely to have.

the 318iS had the larger shock body too

i looked at the g4 racing coilover system and the d2 racing coilovers , i think im gonna go with the d2 as they are more drift orientated.

so i'd need to change what exactlt to fit these coilovers????????????

The Struts, then the new adjustable housings go inside. Its easy to do. You'll need 51mm size struts of a 325 if your car doesnt have them
