Alternator problems

Recommended Posts

hi there people's i need to clear the air abit and find out any information on how to diagnose a problem i have with my alternator ?

what actions do i need to know if i have to replace the alternator?

i done one thing my uncle said to me was to take the negative terminal(black terminal) off the battery, if it ran like normal then i don't need to replace or if it died then that means that i have to replace.

would this be true what i said above ?

could anyone help me out or point me in the correct direction that would be much appreciated

DONT!!!! do that - if not already stuffed - you run a serious chance of doing exactly that.

If you have already done & it kept running then you are bloody lucky & there MAY not be anything wrong with the alt. Doesn't discount a possibility of a problem in it though.

Seriously, with your apparent lack of knowledge (no offense) in this area then your best bet is take it to an auto sparky - it's only a 2 min job to confirm the problem with tools/ knowledge

Much appreciated mate i really appreciate it ay i really needed that bit of information, But what damage could i do if i done that(ie driving it around) i do say that it ran good for the first couple of weeks then this happened out of the blue and i just just thought that it was nothing to worry about but i guess I'm wrong.
