m40 or no?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering, been having a look around the interweb and cant seem to find any m40 turbos, is there a reason this engine in particular hasnt been turboed? seems to be m10s and m42+'s but no m40s or link me to one?

Unlike all the others the M40 has enough natural power for all real men. ;)

The E30 318i never went to the States with the M40, it was way too powerful for them. :D

correct me if i'm wrong but...

m42 has 16 valves (DOHC)

and the m10 has a cam chain.

m40 has neither.

there is no point?

its an ok engine, but there are much better ones out there. why do you want to turbo it?

16 valve is superior for the obvious reason of twice as many valves.

The m10 is stronger and simpler.

And is also inferior as they have a dodgy profile gasket.

The m10 is stronger and simpler.

Of course it would be simpler. It was first produced in 1961! Edited by Eddy

I know, i was hassling a 325 on the backroads today :P

i can see why most wouldnt bother then, just an engine thats kind of in-between old and dohc.
