E30ster 1 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 Hi there, am looking at possibly purchasing a m52 2.8 engine for a swap have heard/read a lot of discussion about different gearboxes to use and was just wondering a couple of things.. firstly i know (think) that the getrag 240, 260 and ZF S5D-320Z(or any other e36 boxes) have the same bellhousing stud patterns, but differ in angle. Soo what i firstly wanted to know is whether the 240(from an m40) will bolt onto the m52 at the best angle (ie around stock) or am i better using the 260 and making do with the 15° - 20° angle(wouldn't really want to cut and weld bellhousing)? Secondly i assume that the 260 is stronger than the 240? and if so is the 240 that much weaker that it would not be wise to use sorry i know I've asked a lot of questions but any help is greatly appreciated
