greenday-rulz21 6 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 The new PDK seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox from Porsche, which was in the 2009 911 Carrera, can shift 60 percent faster than the Tiptronic system. The PDK system has helped the 911 S lap the Nurburgring eight seconds faster than the six-speed variant. Porsche has now released a video which explains more on how the PDK system works, it shows off their dual wet clutches which are simultaneously connected to two gears so that when a gear is engaged the next gear is already selected. This allows for the shifting to be instantaneous.

Cale 36 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 How does it know if your going to change up or down gears?
greenday-rulz21 6 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 How does it know if your going to change up or down gears?Advantages * Extremely fast shift time of 8 milliseconds, when shifting to a gear ratio the transmission ECU is expecting Disadvantages * Lengthy shift time when shifting to a gear ratio which the transmission ECU did not anticipate (around 400ms, depending on the situation)
