E30 Turbo from Australia

Recommended Posts

hey guys

have been checkin your forums out for a while, some good stuff on here!

im from tassie way in australia, thought i should share what i have been working on

on a first year mechanic wage so trying to do everything on the cheap

got the car for 500 dollars, rings were gone so decided to rebuild it, then decided a little more

was a 323i auto, put a manual in it. new suspension, interior.

bored it to 325 and swapped to eta pistons,

since i didnt have much money, went the crude way around without using an ecu

got a rising rate fuel reg, injectors. seven of them actually, but we will keep that quiet!

had it dyno'd, proven to work. at a low 7 pound but good fun

but different plans when a bit more money comes my way!

anyways here is the build, have a perv, have a laugh or just a look

cheers!

Beautiful man...that is a very tidy and professional looking install - well done! Is an intercooler coming next?

water to air intercool it and you should be ok to run a little more boost

not quite as rangi as I had hoped for, the manifold looks alright..any dyno figures??

laggy?

nice, those budget setups can be alot of fun- just dont get too greedy with the boost. (dont ask how I know)

I'm impressed with the intake pipes, very clean. Did you get any lambda readings with the dyno run? I'm curious to see how thats looking. Any HP/TQ firgures?

cheers guys!

yeah has been alot of fiddling on the dyno and what not to get it right

dont have papers on me atm but think it was .86 lambda, and 180 horse

not heaps, but yeah definately intercooler and an ecu on the go next

the manifold is actually a ebay item, good quality suprisingly

the rebuid set me back around 3 ish, full exhaust and piping by mate was 600 for parts

few dyno runs 50 dollars each plus the kit off ebay

still a while to go though

thanks for the comments!

180WHP is alright, I was expecting maybe a wee more bit given its a 2.5L now but about right for a 2.3L on 7psi.

I was more looking for lambda across the rev range, if its around .86 throughout thats pretty good.

[Megasquirt plug]

you considered Megasquirt as an ECU? easy enough to make it run on an L-jet car and then add in ignition control later once fuel is sorted. Its not for everyone but for the budget DIY guy with half a brain its definately worth looking at.

From the blurb at the beginning i was expecting a couple of rusty gutters and a coke can.

Thats looking pretty sharp mate, wicked work.

yeah she's alright

.86 all through out the range lambda

have considered megasquirt

but was thinking of when it gets to that stage do the bigger injectors and motec,

will eventually start racing it so i'd rather do it properly then,

cheers guys
