JiB 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 As far as I can tell, from internets and looking at a few on hoists, the differences are: -Offset strut tops - extra camber, no extra castor -Offset control arm bushes - castor and camber (?) -Longer aluminium control arms - apparently 3x more castor than standard. -Sway bar tabs on the front shock bodies. -5 stud hubs - but is there a larger track than a standard E30? -Faster steering rack than a standard E30. (LHD) What else is different? Is the body any stiffer? Extra gussets? Seam welding? Braces?
CamB 48 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 -Longer aluminium control arms - apparently 3x more castor than standard. Not sure they are any different in geometry - just alloy.
|ncary 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 Just the lower offset and bigger width of the wheels fills in those wide fenders. Suspension has the same movement really.
Mike 1 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 -Longer aluminium control arms - apparently 3x more castor than standard. I'm pretty sure E30 M3 control arms are the same as normal E30, (which are also the same as E36?). However, the e36 M3 evo uses control arms with more castor, maybe thats what these were from? To answer the first 5: Struts tops are angled differently - slightly more camber Control arm bushes are indeed angled for more castor Not lower, and not even alumimium. Correct. Correct. 1645mm compared to 1680mm - My 15x7 wheels are et30 for reference on E30 M3 suspension. Yes. 3.45 to 4.
CamB 48 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) Not lower, and not even alumimium. I've seen them (in real life - not just the internets). http://www.dasautosport.com/khxc/ccp0-prod...trolarmset.html RealOEM shows them as being 1988 onwards: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mo...hg=31&fg=05 Edited November 17, 2008 by CamB
Mike 1 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) yeah later M3's had alloy arms with bigger ball joints too, but same geometry (as std M3, not e36 evo) Edited November 17, 2008 by Mike
