duluck 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Hey all, I am finally over the jap cars and am looking for a E30 bmw. I am wanting to keep it and build it up over a few years Eventually id like to do an engine conversion either something like a 1jz or 2jz or rb20 etc. or keep with the euro theme and turbo a beamer engine (like some of those crazy ones on youtube) My question is what would be a good base to start with? Im looking and a 89 320i manual sedan which is pretty tidy. Is there much difference between the coupe and sedan or any certain models that would benefit me later on? Any comments would be great. Cheers, Blake. Will be sure to upload some pics as soon as I do get one!

Cale 36 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Good call- you won't look back. Basically getting a good base (no rust etc.) would be a good start if you are going to do a conversion. Coupes are worth more if you can get your hands on one, but that depends on what you like/need it for.
duluck 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Im In Wellington. Yep think ill go for the sedan, can make them look just as good. What would be a good price for a mint low kms 320 manual sedan? Also have seen lots of pics of e30s with mayb 15 or 16" bbs wheels with a huge dish. any idea where to get these sorts of wheels from? Not to keen on the usual 17" chromes etc.
Cale 36 Report post Posted January 10, 2009 Yep, 4 doors are exactly the same shell/chassis except 2 more doors. Makes it easier for giants to get in the back- not that a giant will fit in a e30 anyways. A mint manual e30 sedan would be around $4-5k (dependent on specs like recaros/leather/OBC/steering wheel). Even if you bought a mint auto 316i and later put in your jap motor or M50 in with manual trans. Also depends on whether you want pre-facelift or post-FL. Post-FL ('88 and later(?)) has colour coded bumpers (not chrome), different and larger tail lights, ellipsoids, different front valance etc. Pre-FL fits Mtech I, FL fits Mtech II. I assume you mean 3 piece BBS RS which come in 15", 16" etc. but cost $$$$$ and very rare in e30 offset. Standard 15" Basketweaves looks better (IMO) than 14" Bottlecaps. detbeamer 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 good luck puting a 1jz or 2jz in a e30 mate.. welll it could be done i just wana ask how rich are ya lol i was looking at that for my 83 coupe end the end i put a detsr20. the toyotas have there exhaust on the same side as the m20's plus 2 big turbos then you got the problem of the steering rack..
