E39 1997 - 520i Excalamtion Mark under Temperature Guage -

Hi,

My Car is showing an exclamation mark under the engine temperature gauge and I am wondering which sensor this relates to as the previous owner told me about some non OEM Brakes.

I haven't been able to find the brake fluid resovior can someone guide me to where I should be looking?
