M40 to E36 M42 Swap into E30 Info

Recommended Posts

Have searched about 6 forums trying to find a step by step DIY of this.

Have found bits and pieces, but no straight step by step in one place, I am sure somebody has a treasure trove of info somewhere on them, am finding this very frustrating.

Didn't help that the US didn't get the m40 <_<

Just a link/thread with some pics etc would be helpful if anyone has seen one.

Any help is appreciated.

Nathan

Attention: JiB....

1.

Its possible but you need some bits from a e30 m42 to make it go in - you'll need the e30 engine loom (unless your good with wiring, in which case could probably use the e36 loom and get around the security), e30 exhaust manifold and I think I heard something about a PAS pump but I'm not sure.

2.

We did it on ours couple of years back.

You need an E30 oil sump, go for the E30 manifold as it gives slightly better torque, The loom is very similar IIRC but don't quote me, the mounts need changing too IIRC.
