elmarco 56 Report post Posted May 8, 2009 Start from the left (as in edge by the passenger door) and lever the trim in the middle of the dash out gently (don't damage the soft dash). It is on long die cast metal pins and will slide completely off eventually. The surround for the stereo is next - lever this off gently. The stereo is held in with 2x philips screws. I think the aftermarket faceplates to fill the gap are around $30 on Trademe.
jochen 4 Report post Posted May 8, 2009 anyone want to buy my head unit and stacker? and what is it worth? There are plenty of ex-Japan E46s out there where people want an original BMW NZ-radio to replace their shitty Jap radio Check prices on TradeMe, but if you describe it right (NZ-band radio) and mention what it came from (E46 per 2001 or E46 post 2001 - there's a difference) then you'll find a buyer for sure
ewie 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2009 (edited) anyone want to buy my head unit and stacker? and what is it worth? Is the head unit a CD or Tape player?? My new toy has the Jap MD head unit.. got it re-set to NZ radio frequencies but have no idea what I'm sposed to do with the MD player. Already has the stacker in the rear. Oh and before you pull it out.. make a note of the serial number so it'll work in the next car... Edited May 9, 2009 by **Ewie**

My new toy has the Jap MD head unit.. got it re-set to NZ radio frequencies but have no idea what I'm sposed to do with the MD player. Insert MiniDisc to play it. Use normal controls to control it. Press Eject to Eject it. Quite easy really :-) Oh and before you pull it out.. make a note of the serial number so it'll work in the next car... Serial number is irrelevant, not required for anything. Any E46 radio will work in any E46 car, no code required.

jochen 4 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 I meant can you get the discs etc? Do you burn music onto them like a CD? I've never used them Buy the blank MiniDiscs at any record store Use a MiniDisc recorder to record onto them There are very popular in Japan, a little bit popular in Europe, and not so popular in NZ
