E34 540i - Dipping idle after acceleration.

Hi guys,

When I drive my 540i E34, with the M60B40 engine. I find that after accelerating normaly off the lights, going though the gears up to 4th or 5th (Auto), if I take my foot off, and coast the revs drop to around about 600 rpm, the interior lights and headlights dim because the alternator is not spinning quick enough, then a second or so later it eases it's way back up to around 1000rpm when coasting.

The same thing happens if I apply the accelerator and take my foot off everytime.

This seems to be most prominent at 45-75km/h.

I was thinking it must be ICV related?

Any ideas would be appreciated

Clean your idle control valve with carb cleaner.
