danj 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Do I just remove the two screws on the outside of the car that appear to be holding the unit in place, then pull it out? Or do I need to get to it from the inside.. Any tricks to it? Cheers again guys
danj 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2009 someone must know, or is it so obvious how to do it that no one can even be bothered to answer I just want to be sure before i try to pull the light housing out... it seems to be pretty stiff / hard to get out, is it only the two screws on the outside that i remove? pjay 8 Report post Posted June 11, 2009 I replaced mine but I have an E36. Remove the surroundy thing then the light pops off with some assistance of a flat head. If Its the same Its held in by adhesive. Easier than i seems

blakamin 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) From e34 bentley manual License plate light, removing and installing 1. Open trunk lid. 2. Remove screws retaining license plate light assembly. 3. Remove bulb and install new bulb. NOTEInspect bulb contact springs for damage and corrosion. Replace lens assembly if necessary. 4. Installation is the reverse of removal. From the outside looking at mine.Did your dash tell you it was out? Edited June 11, 2009 by blakamin

blakamin 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2009 So you got it sussed now obviously? (Mine kept saying "trailer light" for a month and I thought it was because of aftermarket wiring. Turned out to be a bloody fuse in the trailer light module... this thing has bloody fuses everywhere!)
danj 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2009 Got the bulb changed no worries (no idea why i couldn't get the light housing to come out the first time, came out easily the second time) But it didn't fix the problem, so I'm thinking it's a wiring problem, I assume there isn't a separate fuse for each license plate light... (the other light works fine)
