bmw4life 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2009 Hey. won't be faulty alternator. If your batt voltage is ok 12.5v or above and starter wont crank grab a multi-meter and check voltage to starter solenoid when key in the crank position prob need an assistant. If you have 0v there is no voltage coming from the key switch which could indicate faulty key switch or faulty relay. if it measures 8v and under it is a result of a common exteemly frustrating bmw fault that usually results in intermittent starting faults in e30. to remedy this run a relay close to starter motor and have it switching off the crap voltage from the key and presto always starts. if your getting good supply voltage from key to starter solenoid ie 12v etc and main battery + and earth lead have good connections you have an internal starter fault
