simke 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2009 Some of you may already know this, but I only learnt about this the other day and found it to be an interesting piece of historical information. After WW2, BMW factory in Eisenach came under Soviet control. They started producing cars which were initially sold as BMWs, however later changed the name to EMW (Eisenacher Motorenwerk). EMW at Wikipedia BMW 340 BMW

elmarco 56 Report post Posted October 21, 2009 I didn't know that. The board must have been thrilled about losing their high volume factory to the Soviets.
3series 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2009 I know of a guy who owns a EMW M1 GT not to be confused with a BMW M1, slightly different.
bellicose 9 Report post Posted October 21, 2009 I know of a guy who owns a EMW M1 GT not to be confused with a BMW M1, slightly different. That would be an 'Emerson Motor Works' car, made in NZ. Not the same EMW.
