Gunner 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 I had the same problem on my primera. failed last month, " steering rememdy play r/h" took it to my local mechanic and $150 later it past. Didn't actually know what they did but i will assume just replaced some parts? so i guess it may cost u a bit more for the bmw.
JaseNZ 53 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) I am doing mine shortly as i have the same problem, Mine only just passed last time but needs doing. My remedy, I have ordered some solid outer ball joints from Gavin and am just waiting them to turn up, Also on advice i have purchased some solid M3 CAB's from Gavin to put in as well. Because i do not have the equipment to do myself as the outers have to be pressed out i have been quoted around $200 to do the swap. So for me adding it all up. Out ball joints (solid type) $115 approx Solid M3 CAB's $115 Labour to swap out $200 Total - $430 , That may seem alot but for alot better handling and something that will never have to be done again in my life time i am ok with it. Plus you need to get it aligned if you do the M3 bushings (which are totally worth it). To the OP - you need to find out if its the outer ball joint or inner. Antallica 15 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Not going to be able to do this myself, so will have to find out who's going to rip me off the least up here Thanks for the replies Edited November 12, 2009 by Antallica
QuickSilver 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) OR, you find a good condition replacement control arm which are common from wreckers, and relateively cheap, and a very quick part replacement job. No need to press, replace bushes, none of the above. However.. the m3 parts are worth their money... Edited November 12, 2009 by QuickSilver
Antallica 15 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Well I won't be able to afford the M3 upgrade but the second hand idea could be worth a look. Not sure who's best for that though. So after a look around on the net it looks like it's better and easier to replace the whole arm. Thanks Edited November 12, 2009 by Antallica
