Alarm LED in rear view mirror.

Japan spec E39 528i with self dimming rear view mirror. Car does not have the factory alarm.

Do these cars have the LED installed in the IR sensor on the rear view mirror? I think I can see it in there but cannot get the red cover off.

If so, where can the wires be found under the dash? I want to use it for an alarm.

No alarm is fitted to Jap E39's.

Clown nose in the Jap car mirror houses the IR receiver for remote locking.

Euro version car uses RF remote communication & houses the alarm LED in the clown nose instead.
