Buying a new car

Recommended Posts

hi Y'all.

I'm looking at buying a new car, currently on my shortlist is an e39 540i sports.

Presently these are selling for anywhere between $20 & 30k Ozzy eastern prices, far more over here in sleepy ole WA (wait awhile).

Seen some nice ones on cars guide, around 120-150km's.

Is there areason these cars are all for sale with similar mileage,

Are they just upgrading, or are there issues? do they need a major service or anything at any time in the near future.

My plan is to buy something good then treat it badly, make it hurt. consistently red line it & full on round all corners.

Over here we don't have WOF system, a warrant for life, unless you get pulled by the law & have to get vehicle recertifyed.

I know i have problems growing up, but if I could, I could cut the cat out of it & repalce with a straight pipe, just been looking at TMS site so I know it's possible. Would this be foolhardy & reckless?

If yes i will definitely do it.

seriously, what are the downsides to the e39 540i, is there anything i need to look for, obviously, for one, that the PO hasn't treated the car as i intend to.

i've heard the urban suburban experience is harder on a car, so mileage is not always a reliable indicator, (look at jap imports) Is 150km's commuting mileage harder on a car?

i suppose te service history would indicate dates vs mileage?

Any thoughts? on the car!

they go well but are softish...not as much "character" as an e 34.I was really excited to drive an e39 540 six speed but was strangely unmoved.

I don't like the front of them much!

Do they have the vanos cams set up? is this a problem with this mileage range (quick dump them before they cost millions)?
