santa 3 Report post Posted April 10, 2010 Hi I have agreed to help my neighbour whom had cooked the m40 motor in her E30 318i. She had bought a second hand M40 long motor from a local wrecker which was out of a E36 and was told it would bolt in. After changing over inlet manifolds, mounts etc I foundthat the crank angle pick up sits further out from the block in the E36 than it does in the E30. If I use the E36 crank pully it will be fine with the angle sensor but wont linr up with any of the accrssory belts p/s, alt, water pump, a/c etc. Would it be easier to swap over all the pullys to E36 ones? your suggestions appreciated. Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted April 10, 2010 Yes, you need to change the pulleys, or the whole units, this is the only real difference in the two engines.
