Replacing Indicator - What's This for?

Recommended Posts

Hi there. Poorguy was nice enough to send me an indicator from his 528i as the plastic broke in mine so it couldn't return.

I thought it would be a relatively simple swap but have come across this...

This is a connection from my old indicator:

The input it went into: (from the column)

The new indicators output.

so, not quite sure what to do here. Can anyone shed some light on this? BTW - i have tested the new indicator and everything works so i am even more intrigued on what this grey wire is for :)

Cheers.

just chop and join your old connector into both those white wires.

they both go to the same place as you can see they join in the 1 pin plug.

i think im on the right track??? your post was kinda confusing.

or is your indicator already hooked up and working and that wires just a left over? if so i would just leave it. may be for something that does not come in your car. ie alarm or something.

that's what i was going to do...was just wondering why the extra wire was needed :/

Edit: the original wire leads into what i think is the back of the ignition. and yes, all works ok without it, it seems.
