Way offtopic

I purchased a Yamaha ATV in the weekend, however after using it on Saturday night I noticed the lights became dim, the brightness of the lights didn't change weather or not the bike was on or off, so obviously an electrical problem/magneto. Had it professionally diagnosed and have been quoted $645 to have the stator rewound, price for a new stator installed was $900 - one of the biggest issues is the fact it will take 3-4 weeks to do!

I found that price over the hill because I have had a alternator in a European car refurbished before and it was a fraction of the cost. Does anyone here know about ATV repairs, costs and what's involved with doing the repair myself? Just trying to keep costs down! Previous owner had the battery replaced so it was obviously an existing fault and he's virtually un-prepared to help.

Cheers.

I would ring around for a second & third quote. This will tell you if it is pricey or not. I usually find a bit of time on the phone saves a bit of money.

Lots of online do it your self tutorials around on the subjct, may not be specific to your ATV however. At least while your at it though you can probably upgrade and drive high wattage lights.

When I've looked at it, it's been for CRF450's and XR400's.

Good Luck.
