What kind of format supported by BMW Mini-Disc Player

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I got 2002 BMW E46 recently, it comes with Mini-Disc player.

It works fine when I play the minidisc from seller.

But when I make my own Minidisc with my Sony Net MD-N10. It cannot play.

I am wondering is there any specific format need to setup when burning Mini-Disc?

Any ideas?

Thank you.

It could be that the minidisc player is not compatable with burnt discs. I had a cd player in a car that I could not play burnt cd's on.

The Net MD's copy the digital files don't they, ie. MP3's for playback??

You will prob. need to use a MD recorder, with Analog/digital (optical) inputs that record the wave data.

I've got a MD player in the Altezza (factory) & had a 3disc one (panasonic iirc) in my EVO before that, both worked fine.

This is the recorder I have:

Sony MDS M100

My old Sony Net MD player used some Sony only format - ATRAC or something. Make sure you aren't recording in an encoded format would be the first suggestion.

All the MD use a ATRAC codec, but you have to use non-MDLP format.

Assuming you are using the USB cable for this (why would you not to, it's so much faster!)

When you make the MD using the N10 from the SONY software, you will be able to choose a compression of 2x or 4x or none. You MUST use none for that to work in the car MD.

If you are using normal input (3.5mm or optical), then make sure you DON'T set recording mode to MDLP.
